hi guys, i run a rr6 on standard gearing and standard lardy 530 chain. i believe standard gearing is 42t rear and 16t front. i do approx 7 or 8 trackdays a year and minimal road riding. this year i intend to do more trackdays and no road riding.

so i am going to change the gearing. my first thoughts are 44t rear and standard 16t front, or possibly 44t and 15t. i will also convert to 520 pitch chain.

question is, will a standard length chain fit, or will i need a different length chain? how will i know which length chain to fit if standard does not fit? is it a case of suck it and see?

without being track specific, what gearing do other trackdayers / racers run? many thanx for any forthcoming replies.

happy new year to you all

good practice is to get a longer chain, then you can cut the link where you need to. this way you can also try and make sure that the wheelbase is longest as possible, but always account for chain adjustment otherwise you'll have to chop another link out at a later date.

gearing wise, if this is your first time changing the gearing i'd stick with +2 on the rear. I run +2 rear -1 front and it is lively but not unmanageable. I don't usually change my gearing for different circuits as im lazy. but if there is a particular (or multiple) parts of the circuit that lend themselves to different gearing then i make the effort.

520 pitch imo i dont bother, the weight saving isnt massive and i'd prefer the strength and durability of a 530, i've seen plenty of 520's let go on 1000's and do some damage. not seen many 530's let go...

you dont want the longest wheelbase possible though,it may help stop wheelies but at the expense of turn in+handling.

-1 +2 won't need any extra links and thats a good generall gearing for most circuits.

theres a measurement for the ideal wheelbase on theblades, but cant remember what it is,will have to dog it out of my notes in the garage.

From middle of rear swing arm main bolt to middle of wheel axel. If I can remember 190 is a figure I think or mayb not. I'm close anyway. -1 and 44 on rear woks well for me

if thats 190 mm scott,it's a lot bigger than that.645mm rings a bell for some reason, but will have to go check to be sure.
