The Mrs is looking to get me something for my birthday and has come across some wax called dodo juice which seems to get good reviews Is it any good? And I notice they are all colour specific so what one would she need for my repsol?
Martin, The dodo juice stuff is pretty good but not very long lasting! You can get small "panel pots" that you can get to try out without buying large pots and then find out the wax isn't for you. The small panel pots will prob be able to do your bike a couple of times. The dodo juice tends to be a soft wax which makes it very easy to use too much and apply it too thick making it hard to remove.
It kinda depends on what you want from the wax really and how much you want to spend? A lot of folks like the liquid spray wax, again not very long lasting but very easy and quick to apply after washing the bike and gives good results. A lot of spray waxes can also double up as a spray detailer for removing bird crap and still leave some wax protection behind. Hard wearing and longevity in a wax folks tend to go to the likes of finishkare 1000P (also good for alloys and winter use!) or the newer synthetic hard coatings by the likes of wolfs chemicals and gtechnic but specific shampoo's need to be used to get the best out of the products. Waxes like the dodo juice and pinnacles waxes I tend to see those as show waxes, don't last very long but can give vehicles that pop from the paintwork. Then of course you have got the higher end market that cost a fortune and only really trained eyes can see the subtle nuances and differences than the cheaper alternatives. A lot of the finish a wax gives off is as a result of the prep work and polishing (prep polishes don't normally contain abrasives so won't wear lacquer down!) that precedes the wax application.
Well I just want something that gives a good shine, I only ride in good weather and clean and polish bike before riding everyday so as long as it lasts a few hours Don't want to spend a fortune
You shouldn't be polishing the bike all the time mate. It removes a small layer of lacquer/paint every time. Polish the bike and then wax, the wax will protect the paint removing the need to polish for a lot longer.
If you want to give it that quick spritz before going out then get one of the Maguiars spritz sprays or something like Mr Sheen. Save the expensive waxes for treating the bike.
