Hi all just a quick hello and intro from me, new to this forum and hoping to get as much out of this one as I do the current one where I'm a member, (different bike). Anyway I'm 39 yrs old and from Manchester, only got into biking last year, (I know I've wasted many a good year), and have been learning my craft on a YZF600 Thundercat. Absolutely cracking 1st big bike, very forgiving and learnt loads. A recent trip to Assen for the MotoGP forced me to realise that the bike sadly isn't up to keeping up with my friends on their 1 ltr bikes (unless I want to be permanently wringing its neck and up and down the gearbox) so am about to take the plunge and buy a Blade. I have considered others but speaking to friends and researching the interweb I feel this'll be the next logical step in my biking career. I'm going to look at an 2002 which is up for sale at a local dealer for £2500 which I feel is a steal for the year if their explanation of condition is to be believed. Being a novice on these though I was hoping for some buying advice, you pitfalls and what to look for. I could tell you the ins and outs of my Cat as I've ridden mine, worked on it and read loads about them but the blade is new territory for me. I intend to become an expert of sorts but it's early days so could really use your assistance chaps. Thanks in advance Steve P.S if you're wondering about the name it was given to me On the other forum when 6 weeks after passing my test I embarked on my first bike and camping trip to North Wales in the dead of winter compete with snow, ice and gale force winds.
Welcome Steve. the great and the good tech boys will be along soon enough and will be should be able to offer you advise on the 2002 model but if the wine o'clock thread is anything to go why I wouldn’t be expecting much common sense this evening.
Welcome aboard Steve. As for the blade you are looking at go for it.Don't i know much about that model but I'm sure some of the lads and ladies may give you some pointers to look for.Pics please when you get it.
Welcome in dude and hope you get the bike you are looking at .I have always in general had new, except for a TLR which i got from Carnells in Stockport i think it may have been 3/4 years old but had a leak from the gearbox and it took an age for the idiots to mend it.I suppose the service history would be a good start for you and maybe speak to the previous owner via the log book. Arthur will be on later for expert advice but i suppose the obvious things would be the Fork oil /Brake fluid change /Chain ect. These would be of interest and if there is no service history ask the shop what they are doing regarding a service prior to delivery.
hi steve welcome dude enjoy your new stead, just a quick link overview n prices mate. Honda CBR900RR FireBlade (2002-2003) - Honda Motorcycle Reviews
Hi mate welcome to the mad house. Hope we can be of use to you? Enjoy your time, and your always welcome on the Northern runs.
Welcome there forum Steve, I can't help out much with the 2002 blade but if it's anything like my 2011 model you will love it if you get it And cracking intro
Welcome! Flicking thru a buyers guide for 2002 Blade, only 2 things leap out as things to look for: - steering can be crazy sharp, dependant on what head bearings are fitted - cam-chain tensioner a well-known weak point Other than that, its a Honda!
The 2002 Blade is a great bike and I nearly bought one myself but stumped up the extra for a 2004, mostly because I like the underseat exhaust and moto-GP looks. Oh, and get a black one - they're the fastest!
Hi Steve. Welcome to the forum. I've got a 954 and I love it. A nice, relatively simple bike. Easy to ride around town and then when you get out of town, well, it is a FireBlade. It's light, lighter than the 750 Ducati it replaced and lighter than the Honda 550 it shares the garage with. Not being a huge techie I can't help you much on what to look out for but I agree about the steering. I've learnt not to snatch at the throttle on what passes for Tarmac in the south west, but my mate has an identical bike with a steering damper and to be honest it makes the bike feel like its been drugged. Whatever you choose, as long as its a blade you'll get the best of both worlds. It's the old cook in the kitchen, whore in the bedroom concept. And that's what all blokes want isn't it. Cheers Ken
