Was in my local Honda Dealership today to check what time they wanted the Blade tomorrow for it's first service. We got talking about how difficult I'd been finding it to obtain a decent rear Hugger as they had a non-ABS Blade on a stand with a white OEM Honda Hugger which I still think is by far the best looking one. I asked why Honda don't do one for the ABS? It turns out that the reason is nowt to do with the physical fitment as both bike are the same. It's actually to do with how the ABS box of trix mounted under the seat unit projects downwards towards the rear wheel (which is why the ABS model doesn't get the nice white under-tail unit) and thus requires a bulge in the rear underseat plastics. Because of this Honda worry that two up under a severe bump the suspension 'could' compress enough for the Hugger to impact the ABS 'Bulge' under the seat and thus explode in to a Million pieces and cause £100 Million worth of damage to 3 lanes of the M6! ...........................well I might of made that last bit up, but ya get the drift anyway!
Are all sparkies a bit slow? Any gas fitter, even a recently qualified one who doesn't ride motorcycles, could have told you that!
Gas fitters have the advantage of Solvent Abuse to heighten, albeit temporarily their thinking! As an aside I was sat in my Garage today after work looking at where the Blade is Anchored down and thought I could do with a socket near there for the Optimate! 1 hour later and a bit of Overhead works and a solution was actioned!
Don't knock it till you've tried it, shipmate! I like the optimate rig. How you getting on with the PR3's?
Don't know yet Matey, only had em fitted on Tuesday and rode more or less straight home again and not been out since. Out tomorrow for my first service so hopefully may have time for a quick blast after, otherwise I'll be out over the weekend to fully scrub in. Must say that tread pattern looks reet sexy!
I ignored Honda and put a Oem on my ABS and with the wife on board it rubbed away on the tyre, pushed down by the ABS box. We could smell burning plastic at the traffic lights
They have the coolest tread! Unmistakeable. I was in the Bransons Yeovil the other day and I couldn't believe the amount of bikes wearing them. One of the mechanics looked at mine and said 'Serious tyres!' Outstanding.
Nothing like a bif of MMT02 mate Shame you couldn't have matched the black 20mm conduit to keep it all consistent but it's your garage not mine.....
It's all I had on the Van at the time, and when I get an urge it's just gota be done! Yes the MT2 is sticky backed but it's got screws in too, didn't want owt falling off straight on to me Baby! Anyways, if I'd used 20mm Conny there as well I'd av had to remove & refit the plug! Fek that! Both the double sox and the Optimate are screwed in to joists so no probs there. Bet no one else has a TPN Dis Brd in their garage eh?
I've had the Honda hugger on my 09 ABS since new and have never had any problems. The dealer did mention about the potential of disintegrating the hugger with two up so I whipped off the pillion pegs anyway.
Yeah, mines been twatted numerous times by the ABS box, in fact I've wazzed the preload up three notches from my recent KAIS suspension setup settings. Seems OK now and no discernible difference in handling either. The OEM plastic seems to be able to take a fair twatting without suffering more than a blemish to the paintwork so I'm still happy with my choice despite some Battle damage.
Sorry mate just got my blade is the socket on the left side of the seat where you can plug in the optimate charger?
The Female part of the socket goes wherever you want to fit it? Nothing comes fitted to the bike for charging purposes, you have to fit what comes in the kit to suit your own bike.
