Hello Geezers. I'm a 2003 R1 rider. But..........................I won't be for long . Been doing my research and am pretty certain a blade is my next long term bike subject to test ride. Would appreciate some advice a.s.a.p. because I can't wait to get my hands on one but have a problem. There's a few 2009 bikes out there for just the right price, great bike............ except for the looks. I know it's subjective but I think it looks crap, I don't hate it but don't like it either, but could maybe live with it, on the other hand I love the looks of the 2006/7 bike. However, all 2006/7 bikes I've seen in same excellent condition are only £300/400 less than the 2009 and the 2009 has all those really juicy bits like slipper clutch, ABS, blah blah, it's a no brainer to take the 2009, but I just don't like its looks at all. So.....is the 2009 'that' much better than the 2006/7. With £6k to grab a excellent 2009 would it be a real dumb decision to take a 2007 for just £400 less?
Hi Mike, welcome to the forum mate. I have an 05 model from new that I use on track but when it came to buying a newer model I really didn't like the new shape. Bought one anyway 'cos there wasn't anything else out there that I fancied and believe it or not the styling really grows on you. Probably helped by the fact that it is such an impressive bike to ride. So what I'm saying is give it a chance I'm sure you won't be disappointed!

Hello mate. Ive got a RR6 and for the same reason, i think they look so much sexier ! I keep thinking I'm missing out and is a later one so much more, but i really don't think it is really the case ! Real men don't need ABS and unless your a serious racer I'm still blowing 08's 09's 11's etc into oblivion ! A 1000rr of any year is a very capable machine and can go passed the limits of most men ! Registrations can become an ego thing ! You can upgrade with slipper clutches and give it full SP spec if thats the route you want to go but just go with the machine thats gonna make your balls tighten whenever you look at it is my advice

I'm well aware that an 06/07 is way better than I am, plus I'm not bothered about having the latest or a low mileage bike, I've never had a bike less than about six years old. The problem is the small difference between quite a few very good cond' examples for sale right now; only about £400 quid more for a 2009 than a 2006/7! Gotta be one or the other is under or overpriced surely? The extra goodies on the 2009 can't be ignored for just £400 more. I def' won't rule out a 2006/7 though if one pops up at the right price.
Hi Mike, my opinion is very biased. When I was looking for a Blade I had enough money to buy a new one, apart from paying all that VAT, I really wasn't that keen on the looks of the post 2006/7 models. So I decided to go for a low mileage RR6 which was totally standard and mint. Although the stock RR6 is allegedly slower and not as nimble as the later models I totally love mine, best bike I have ever had and I have had a few. I have spent a lot on it and I doubt a stock later model would out perform her. If you look around you can pick up a 2006/7 for far less than £6k, I paid just under that 3 years ago. At the end of the day it's a personal choice, I just love the look of the RR6/7 and would not swap it for any other year.
Hi Mike, I also went from a r1 to a blade. I went for a rr9 (2009) but the rr6/7 is also a great bike. Whatever you choose you will not be disappointed. Good luck with your search
Thanks again geezers. Only just noticed these 'page 2' replies Yeah I know I can get a v'good rr6 for way less than £6k. I didn't mention this but whatever I get its gotta be the white/gold wheel model, or repsol. The others have colour schemes my grandma would consider very nice. I can't have black, gone through my black phase twice now. Any real good rr6/7 that's pops up, right colour, about a grand less than a rr9 I'll probably snap her up. What I need is someone to tell me the later models are shit so I can just concentrate of the rr6/7 models.
Not crazy about the Repsol scheme. Never heard of TT legends scheme, just checked it out, looks good on the RC30 but that's about it, looks very dated now. HRC scheme looks like what I think of as the White/gold wheels scheme. There's a pretty much all white scheme with red/blue that seems to be a USA scheme only which looks the dog's b*****ks. Not a big fan of 'em myself mate but the rr6 & 7 look good as they go. Many of the aftermarket cans fitted to the rr6/7s look tacky, seen a couple of very nice ones tho'. The ones that stick out beyond the rear light look s**te. . Whats the handling of your bike like? Bit of a vague question I know, but one of the reasons I want a blade (or think I want one) is the supposed easy handling of the bike. I don't want a bike that I have to tame, it's bullshit because most riders inc' me are better served by a bike that doesn't need manhandling into submission.
Welcome along Mike, I went for a 2007 purely on looks really, I've ridden a 2012 model and didn't feel the need to change. If you're not fussed about being on the latest thing, I'd spend 5k on one of these; on autotrader at triumph Birmingham now and have a grands worth of petrol for the summer!
