I've just come off the phone to my insurer,H&R,and up to now they've been quite reasonable for every mod I've made, including my scorpion exhaust not charged any extra.
But mention quickshifter and that brings up a referral, and when she came back on the line she says it'll be a 25% loading on my policy:eek:
Now that seems like a lot but it's only £42 a year,I still grudge it being a tight Scotsman, have others been charged similar?

Rob dogs as usual. Must admit I'd check before even buying any so called performance part. I wonder if you get the first mod free and have to pay for the rest. Who knows? Surely we have a potential whistleblower on here for that sort of thing.

In general most company's only charge for stuff that will make it quicker
Slip on exhaust, suspension etc tend to be freebies
Full systems, shifters, power commanders etc all claim power increase so tend to charge more

^^^ indeed... when I renewed the other day I declared my mods... PCV and Akrapovic slip-on (with Bennetts)... guy said that the slip-on would not affect the premium on its own, but the PCV upped the premium a little (about 10%).

Makes you laugh!! Or winds me up!!!!

Its not like any 1000cc superbike is SLOW from the shop floor, what do they think, I mean as if a pipe, shifter or what ever really gives it any more top end, out the box it still does 180mph!! The to$$ers just like any excuses to screw the punter a little more!

My girl wanted to cancel her 125cc policy last week, it costs 100 a year, one month in, how much to cancel.... 100! W@nkers!

I had the same with the Tossers that Trade as Hastings Direct!

Asked how much it would cost to change from my Blade to the ZX10?

"Oh your current Insurer won't offer cover for such a powerful Bike" says they!

WTF! Says I, tiz the same thing but a diff manufacturer?

"Sorry Sir, but we can offer cover from a diff Insurer at £2400" even though my current Blade policy only costs £329!

    Refund 6 months in?

    Nowt!

Proceeded to get cover for the ZX10 elsewhere for 69 pence more than they were charging for the Blade!

    WANKERS!

Glad it's just not me being fleeced. On the grand scheme of things the total cost of my policy even with the QS added is still reasonable,it's just the principle that it doesn't even make the bike faster, and it's not covered for theft or damage.

Problem with insurance premiums is that they are calculated statistically. Things such as post code, bike etc all fed into a machine that then decides that too many blades for example fitted with such and such a mod in such and such an area were subject to a claim which means that particular combination is a higher risk to them

Hope the assessor doesn't notice if you have the misfortune to have a prang as theoretically they could walk away from the policy without paying you a penny.

Underseat one? The way they handle you'd expect them to be hard to insure lol

I've been privy to a situation where an accident occurred, the owner removed the mods before the insurer came to inspect the vehicle, but it turns out the insurer had traced said person back to a forum they were a member (this insurer gave preferential rates to members of the forum and he was one of the people who took them up on the offer) and used his profile that listed his modifications and the documentation of his mods that he spoke about on the forum against him when he tried to make a claim. They are sneaky little fuckers - don't give them the ammo to butt fuck you.

I remember when my son applied for his first car insurance and it was over £400 cheaper to have fully comp than third party only. When I asked why that was, they said the driver wanting fully comp is considered to be a more responsible individual. How daft is that, I would suggest that any one modifying there bike gets catagarised and it's not therefore the mods per say but the personality of the biker that mods. I was initially told that crash bungs will increase my premium because I fit them because I expect to drop the bike, what a load of do do

Or that's just rubbish and Im wide of the mark?

Not at all. When i had my 600RR i got charged £30 extra for crash bungs, tinted screen and short levers. I wouldn't mind paying the money to cover these items in the event of theft or accident, but most companies only insure and replace OEM parts.

I would say good luck to all of us! If i can afford to replace the mod after the accident then so be it. Tha machine is more important for me than the accessories. Cheers guys
