I was out on the 929 most of yesterday, the sintered sbs have certainly made a huge difference on that over OEM and brembo's. From memory £45 From Watlins off the shelve too. Glad your first impressions are good, our very own Steve (Firebloke) recommended them to me.
Right Gents (& Ladies), They are not going to bed in any more, and in fact have not given any feeling of change since I bedded them in on Saturday. The result is that they definitely have more 'bite' than OEM, could be a bit like torque in a diesel, makes you think it is faster than it is, as it gives the impression they are stronger and more modulated than OEM, maybe the placebo effect, who knows? But they have had everything thrown at them this week except snow. No drop off in wet braking, good response, lever feel and retardation from cold, thanks to some inconsiderate tools in cars, I can say without doubt they pull up sharp! No squeal. So not a real comprehensive review, more just first impressions, not had an opportunity to really test them, get heat into them and see if they fade, as in a spirited ride on a sunny morning, with multiple braking in quick repetition, and obviously the wear factor is unknown yet, as is their effect on disc life, but in saying that Honda OEM discs are so weak, particularly if you constantly use them in adverse conditions, I do not think they will make much impact. Overall, IMO a good upgrade on OEM, very minimum they match them, but lever feel and initial 'bite' is better. Around £20 a pair cheaper than OEM, I paid £36 delivered. I will give the thoughts of Chairman Mao once they reach the end of their life, or if they fall apart and I don't stop at any time. EDIT...I have an ABS Blade, could be hard to separate that last comment.
I found the same with mine. They feel similar to OEM but have a bit of a sharper and stronger bite. Can't wait to give them a go on track in March
As promised update on the SBS pads Been in 3k miles now, have performed as well as OEM in terms of bite and fade (none observed on the road) and in varying conditions of cold, dry & wet. Still IMO better initial bite feel than OEM ( I do not think this is in my mind, I believe them to be better) Took them out and checked them yesterday, measured pad depth, they have used approx 25% pad depth from new, surface is fine, no crumbling or unusual marks. Obviously I cannot comment on their effect on disc life over such a short period, and on discs that probably had only 1 pad cycle left. So overall they have gone longer than last set of OEMs, but in fairness, the last set took the brunt of constant daily commuting in appalling conditions of the floods and constant mud and grit that covered them daily, so not a fair comparison. Will I buy again? yes without doubt and at £25 a set cheaper than OEM.
^^^ pretty much confirmed my thoughts on them. I'm just too lazy to remember miles and check wear rates! lol But thanks for taking time to post. I'd never get oem pads as a replacement as feel sbs ebc etc are better and cheaper imo
