A couple of helmets have caught my eye,not just for their pedigree and style, but for what will hopefully be available in the very near future for them, tinting visors. The first is the Shoei NXR,which lists a Transitions visor as an accessory, adjusting to levels of sunlight as you ride. The second is the AGV GT Veloce, which says is AGVisor ready. This promises an LCD visor which turns dark at the press of a button in less than 1 second. Does anyone own either of these helmets and how do you rate them? Also has anyone used either of the tinting methods on a helmet before,i know they are both available as an aftermarket insert for visors, and how did you feel about them? Cheers Ross
I have an NXR and 2 xspirit2 helmets. Not tried the transition visor yet mind. From a previous thread, couldn't be bothered to type it again. It fit's me better it's very snug. The ventilations better for me, it's just as light if not lighter the visor aperture is huge with a cut out in the visor for the pinlock to sit in so no more rubbing against the seal Can't comment on noise as use ear plus all the time. Haven't used at high speeds yet to compare on comfort, buffeting etc. Side plates have better (easier) adjustment to adjust the visor seal. I think the Xspirit 2 does better at Sharp testing if that's your thing. Would recommend trying one. 'Try an X Spirit 2 they are good but you'd be nuts to go the extra for one over the NXR (if the fits good for you). The NXR seems a step forward not sure what Shoei were thinking, if you want a X Spirit 2 your not exactly spoilt for choice with designs even for next year it would seem. The only thing I haven't been able to compare is if the X Spirit 2 is any better at higher speeds, perhaps that's the difference otherwise it offers no other advantages and certainly not for the additional cost. Don't get me wrong I like my X Spirit 2 and if you like top of the tree then why not, that's why I'll be keeping mine.'
Tried the X Spirit 2 last year and fit is perfect and hoping the NXR is very similar as the Transitions visor looks like it is only going to be available for the NXR. Scottish motorcycle show next weekend so hopefully get to try the helmets there
Is there a transition visor available for the NXR or just the insert? The insert looks good but not convinced that it covers enough of the visor to avoid glare sneaking in the edges.
You can currently get a pinlock protec tinting insert in the UK but if you look at the new Shoei 2015 catalogue it lists a genuine Transitions visor available for the NXR,plus pins so you can fit a clear pinlock. A search of the internet so far shows stockists in the USA,sold out or awaiting stock,so hopefully available in UK soon.
