Right today I have spent too much time thinking and come up with too many solutions. Now I have already said I'd like a 1998/99 blade and have around 2k at the mo for one. Having had a browse I reckon with a bit of patience and luck I can find a decent one for that sort of money. Question is.. do I buy another shed for it, do I buy a bigger shed and get rid of the one I got now, do I get a prefab garage type thing or do I go the whole hog and get a proper type garage built? If I go the whole hog and get a proper garage do I need planning and if I go for a prefab do I still need planning? The last two options will mean talking nicely to Mr HSBC! OR do I say sod the shed and keep it in the dining room? Have the winter to find a good specimen so no rush. Also cant get the car down to where the garage would be so no need for anything to big. Hmmmmm
You need to think security, so depends on where you live. Out of sight , out of mind. Like I said, with £2000 you can't afford newer than a tatty, 929 or a nice RRX/RRW. Nutty has a big steel box with shelves in. You will need planning for anything permanent. Good luck, Alan.
The metal bike shed thingy that Nutty's got is a great solution and quite secure but considerably more pricey than a shed. With a shed you can buy and then with a bit of DIM knowledge (never got why they call it do it yourself when it's actually do it myself) you can insulate it, heat it and make it a lot more secure for your baby. I've blinged up a couple of store built sheds now and it's a cheap way of getting a pukka outside room. I've just got planning permission to replace my one car, two bike garage with a two car, two bike garage with an apex roof for storage, so yes, you will need planning for it. Unfortunately the best quote I got for building it was 25k, so I've put it so far on the back burner you can only see the flame in the dark, and Mrs Kpone is an HSBC manager. I don't have a clue about the prefab type as regards local planning but most planning authorities are only too happy to advise you. I think most people only contact them to bitch so asking for advice is looked on as a welcome surprise, I expect. Whatever you go for, make sure you tell the insurance company exactly how you store it as they can be a bit funny about this kind of thing. I'm going to have a go at building a bespoke 'Blade size wooden lean to for my existing garage with floor to roof insulation, power, alarm, compressor and bike stand. It should be cost effective and if I design it and build it myself I'll get exactly what I want
If the shed is moveable you do not need planning, if its a fixed shed [Brick built] you'll need it, I built a 24ft by 13 foot brick built shed for £800, sourced windows [2] and UPVC door from the local free-ads for next to nothing, the roof cost around £400, I had the wood off a building site for Free....long story, a few pallets of blocks and your away, I have electric in there, but no water yet [to make brews] So for what you can buy a prefab for you could build a much larger more secure shed for the same money.....just a thought!!
