Yes I know it might seem a little early ad also with just picking up the bike yesterday but I am going away again with work on monday and so won`t be back till October so after todays run I decided to get a head start on the strip down :D

Quite a few flies to remove !

Got the rear end all off in preparation for the tail tidy , exhaust etc. She will undergo a thorough degrease and clean up before that though.

The fairings will also be all removed and sent away for repainting as they do need attention , especially the right hand side as it looks like the bike has been dropped :(
However I`ll get her back to her best again with a little patience and hard work !;)

More pics will follow as I progress :)

This was similar to my original plan, I picked up my rr4 for £3400 and it looked ropey with high milage but mechanically sound with full service history.

After my one and only track day and realising that I more often than not ride it like I stole it, I have decided that I'm not (too) fused about it looking a little rough around the edges but will make sure it rides perfect.

i love the idea of bringing it back up to showroom condition and my mates often tell me I'm obsessed with my bike but my priorities have just changed.

She wont be an ornament though she will be ridden and lots too . I just like them to be looking their best with some subtle mods ;)

Thats about it for now as away tomorrow so will make a start to degreasing and cleaning when I get back. Will also arrange for the fairings to be sent away for painting.:)

She looks a wee bit sorry for herself now :D

Well home again after being away for 26 days this time !!. Bit of a nightmare aswell as I had ordered an exhaust before I left which should`ve been delivered weeks ago , However no sign of it and no collection card left either. Checked with the neighbours and also come up blank. They did email me a courier tracking link and that doesn`t work either. Have sent them an email to see whats going on like
Meanwhile my other goodies were there though :)

Next items on the shopping list are brake lines , pads , chain and sprockets

I am going to look into what it takes to remove the fairing over the winter on mine. not a job i'm looking forward to as this would be the first time I have to remove a fairing from a bike.

I'm going to trail fit a track fairing then once fitted and 100% remove and get the track fairing Vinyl wrapped.

So any times on how's best to go about removing the fairing will be very handy

Have you decided on a wrapper and a scheme Matt, or are you going to put the Repsol scheme back on it?

To be honest it isn`t that difficult and doesn`t take to long either. As long as you mark up what bolt came off where etc and take your time its no probs to do. About an hour and you should have it all done ;)

Its not that difficult to be honest, like I have said in an earlier post , just be methodical and take your time, mark up where everything goes and get a haynes manual to help along too. Most of my parts going back on are being replaced so makes it even easier :) ;)

At least once a year I do a proper clean where I take the fairings off, and as many other bits as I have time for... would recommend everyone does as it allows you to spot potential corrosion/wear problems before they get critical... and as DDC said, its quite easy if you keep note of which bolts/clips go where.

On the rare occasion I get confused by which bolt/clip goes where, I go to the Lings website and look at the exploded diagrams!

    Hey,
We like to rip the fairings off the bikes and clean up any crud thats behind them, but from experience honda does a really really good job with there fairings which dont allow too much crud to get at the engine. usually the dirtiest areas are the swing arm, shock area which is best tackled by removing the rear wheel, front sprocket (my god does that gunk build up in there!). but as we normally do our servicing before putting the bikes away for winter the fairings come off for oil changing n any lil areas that are in need of a spruce get it but again the engine is usually only a quick covering of muc-off brush it around n rinse off job done!

Its quite rewarding to get everything done rebuilt n step back to look at a clean n shiny bike!:D

I've got mine to do, but it includes replacement of the smashed fairings from my endo moment. Need to decide if it will become a pure track bike, back to classic 2008 pearl white and black or get another set of china fairings.
My 2008 set need some paint attention - mainly the undertray but also front edge if side panels - cannot get an answer if its possible to blend new paint in with existing.

Busy day on the bike and loads of progress made,
Had front wheel and brakes all removed , got front wheel all cleaned polished and sealed and refitted. Also got the left fairings and nosecone refitted.

Got the front calipers all cleaned up too so just waiting on the new brake pads and braided hoses to get them all refitted.

Then Mr courier man arrived with this ! :D
