    .

Hi folks, I'm riding a BMW R1100S at the moment.

    SDC13577.JPG

I love it to bits but it's basicly a 'long-legged' sports-tourer and so I'm looking to add a 2010/11 ABS (don't think my funds will run to a '12) equiped Fireblade to my stable later his year. Something along the lines of......

    Honda CBR1000RR-A (abs).jpg

    or...

    honda.jpg

I'm joining because I want to get 'boned up' (Whaaaaat?) about the bikes before I start throwing my cash about. I bought my first Honda (a CB750 K0) in 1971 so I'm just returning to the fold. lol.

BTW, I'm really liking the zorst on this bike. n e body got one on their bike or know n e thin bout em?

hi mate and welcome to the forum, you wont be dissapointed in buying a blade
i see youve been a little bit sensible in your colour choice as going from a tourer to a repsol would prob be too much as they are so much faster than the rest :D
this will make sense soon enough
you dont have to be mad to be on ere but if you are it helps

Thanks for the welcome boys. I know i've only been here 5 minutes but i'm going to piss u Repsol fans off right away by saying I won't be riding a traveling bill-board advertising (for free!) some dodgy Spanish oil company thank-you-very-much. Sorry.

Thanks for the 'nudge' Jimmy but that's a non-ABS bike. The Honda ABS system has got such 'rave' revues that it seems to have depressed the market for (post '09) bikes without it.

Hi welcome, the repsol would be my honest non biased opinion, they are much faster and better handling than any other!

Welcome Nicko. I totally comply with your thoughts on having to pay someone to actually advertise their product for them. It's a pinnacle of the marketing industry's art that I'm loathe to fall for. Plus, with the Repsol, you'd just be getting similar performance to your BMW but with a less comfy riding position. Whichever choice you make will be the 'correct' one though because it is the weapon of choice whatever colour it comes in (although, the black ones are the coolest and the white ones are the fastest, end of..).

ABS on the Blade is Pepsi or Coke, I'm afraid and even as a huge advocate for the protection it gives you, I think the truth is that its development as a 'finished', idiot proof system isn't quite over yet. This will cause howls of derision from those who love it but you cannot ignore those who have had issues with it whether it be from faulty maintenance or idiosyncrasies in operation. Like an ejector seat or an airbag it has to function first time every time and its very raison d'être means you don't really want to be thinking of what the operations instructions told you to do when you actually need to do it.

    Anyway, enjoy your stay.

Well this is turning into the longest 'Welcome' post ever but can I just say that 'input', vis-à-vis ABS is just what I need. My R1100s had Integrated (I-ABS) brakes when I bought it but it developed a fault almost imediatly (I suspect this was the reason the previous owner sold it!) so I 'junked' it. However, when it was functioning it got me out of the shit twice. I'm so disappointed to hear the Honda system still has gremlins. First I've heard about it so I need a 'rethink'.
