I'd made plans to meet with some mates in Hawes to discuss Euro trip taking place end of May - Steve needed to get some miles in so asked to join. Normal meeting point - Gisburn We tried to take route to Long Preston - but road closed so Steve said 'No problem, we can go via cow shit road - but it may live up to its name' - we stopped in Settle to swap bikes so Steve could try the R1 for a bit and went on though Hortin in Ribbleshead to a photo stop and bike swap And yes that is snow on the the hill tops as its pretty high up there. Was onto Hawes - roads were slippy and loads of salt / dust / grit - even Steve slowed down to avoid the 'Hawes jump' which surprised me. Met at Pennygarth Cafe for a brew and bite to eat and much map consulation - think we have a plan but hearing the plans for the other part of the group going to the GP at Mugello made me wish I was doing a full 2 week trip but know the one week I have planned will be awesome. R1 at Hawes We then went onto 'The Manor Cafe' near Leyburn - always cautious on this road as a pal lost his life (on a bike) a few years ago Cafe was busy with some weird group of harley type lot who all stood just outside the doorway right in the way - and even though they had to move so you could walk in were still blocking the way on the way out - odd The cafe is a good meeting spot with great cafes / food - in some ways better than Hawes Steve very tidy and stealthy blade and my mates Panzer (with a rusty sump after 150 miles) Decent carrot cake - thanks Steve! Minging bike at end of day Big shock . reminder was how much fuel the R1 uses over a blade - Steve and I did identical route, R1 being run in which given state of road made no real difference - Blade averages 47mpg, R1 35 mpg. On a 10 mile section back to the motorway at end of day giving it a few more beans it was 28.5 average! All in all a good , steady 115 mile route (plus to / from mileage for Gisburn) - roads are def. in poor condition - some shocking pot holes seen today
Looks like a good day was had, we all know the blade is good on fuel but the differance in mpg has shocked me a little. I might be over at hawes 1 day next week i hope
Could it be improved on a lot with a PC ?Keeping in mind the cost of the PC over the extra over cost of the fuel.
Already mentioned this to him Giv, it gave me anything up to 20 miles per tank more when I had mine done. Given the amount of mileage Al gets through it wouldn't be long before he recouped his outlay.
