Hey everyone, wanting to do some track days this year and just bought a 2010 blade after Christmas. Only real experience I have so far is a couple of trips to the Nurburgring. So just wanting some advise on how much it is for a session, what I need in terms of tyres etc. and which days to go to. I'm in York so anywhere I can ride to and from would be preferable.

    Cheers!

    :)

Cheers lee! I've had a look and there's one at croft which is near me on the 31st May. Do they normally separate newbs from the quick lads? Just don't wanna ruin anyone's laptimes!!

go in the slow group if its your first track day ,especially if it is a track where you have never been before . you can always go up a group once you have learnt which way the track goes.
road tyres are fine , you will mainly be using the edge of the tyres, so you should have no worries about going home on bald tyres.
i used to have an r1 road bike on dunlop 207 rr tyres and could still get 4500 miles out of the rear with a couple of track days thrown in.

spotsmarts are supposed to be a good tyre for high mileage and good grip , i got 4000 out of my rear on the blade and i use a lot of b roads where the back wheel can skip along the surfaces causing extra wear.
As long as you adjust the pressure and give the tyres 3 laps to warm up before giving it the berries you will be fine .
i have been doing track days for years and only had a couple of slides when i have been a gear lower than i thought i was and given it a handful

Mate, I just did my first track day at Snetterton with No limits, very enjoyable! Only got the CBR last Nov
Generally you have 3 groups, novice, inters and fast. You normally get a twenty minute session so in the case of novices we were on track at 40 minutes pass the hour with only a break for lunch.

As it was my first track day I didn't try too hard, forget who's behind you and ride within your comfort limits.

Had BT016 pros on, even without tyre warmers they provided more grip than I could handle. Only had on scary moment when I was going too slow ( go figure!) for a corner and turned in way too early, missed the apex and went wide, took a little excursion off road , all good though.

If only I had a more local track I would go far more often.
