Its been nearly 4 weeks since i last took the bike out for a good run and today i finally ran out of patience and thought sod it, it cant be that bad can it ? Adding to my impatience was that within the last few weeks i had purchased a carbon yoshi r-77 + pcv with custom map and a HM+ quickshifter After a few problems with the HM loom my new 1 finally arrived on thursday and i picked the bike up friday afternoon but as i was at work i literaly rode it home and shut the garage door. ( can i just take this chance to say a massive thank you to everybody who has been giving me any help and advice with fitting these parts and the problems i later encountered, you have all been stars and i am so greatful ) So first was to make sure the HM shifter was set up properly for its first test ride, i could only get it to work properly when it was set to 100% sensitivity as on any other setting it was changing gear before "shift" flashed up on the lcd screen, i also had the kill time set to 65 as i figured i would rather have it too long and cut it down, rather than have it too short and not work properly, so here are a few pics of the new mods fitted, please excuse how messy the hm unit is set up, this will be cleaned up when i next get chance i need to adjust things a little as the infill pannel doesnt line up properly and the gear lever isnt quite where i want it but they are jobs for a warmer day,i quick update on the weather forecast said it would stay dry with a sweltering top temperature of 2°c but a quick check on the in car thermometer confirmed it was actually 0°c and with bitting easterly gales the windchill must have been -10°c so any additional clothing i could find was a must. So after doing the stationary checks to check the shifter was working properly it was time to try it out. On idle there was quite a large degree of pulsing so even though the pcv has a custom map for my exact set up i may have to see if things can be improved a little, but once i opened the bike up it ran perfectly, low down grunt has dramatically increased and it just sings above 8k. the yoshi is not quite as loud as my old gpr can even with the baffle out but i hope to get used to not hearing the engine note as much. As for the shfter, well there is nothing i can say about it that hasnt already been said before but they are simply mind blowing little things, i could tell straight away that the kill time was too long as it was shifting perfect around 4-5k but above that things were a little jerky so i will have to cut that back a little to get it perfect. So it might have cost me a small fortune in the end to get all the bits on the bike and working properly but it has been the best investment i have made and i am soooo happy with it now The only down side was after about 30mins the cold finally started to take its toll and by the time i got home i had just about lost all movement in my fingers, bring on the summer now so i can meet up with some of you lot again, although i think we might be waiting a few more weeks just yet
Bikes looking good Fez, good on ya for getting out. I have a couple more bits arriving this week, the list of mods is piling up.. (In the living room) Lol. Will all come together soon though.
Over the winter I forget how cool that bike looks. Great write up Barry. I'm looking forward to hearing how the fine tuning goes.
Good write up young Fez. The bike looks top and I am glad you are chuffed with your goodies .Not sure about a ride today as it was a freezing gale just walking around site. yes soon to have a night blast with the Firebloke and some fish and chips .
like said good write up. and giv i hope your right about a ride soon am starting to think it will never warm up agian ithink id done about 2000 miles easly by this time last year so far this year ive done 100ish and none of them were fun .
Bikes looking really good Fez, glad you got out on her. Mine is away atm having some mods done but delayed waiting for a part, at least I am not missing out on good weather. Even though I would not be riding much due to weather, I miss just tinkering with her......absence makes the heart grow fonder, looking forward to getting her back but may be a while yet.
Hi fez You mention that your bike is still pulsing on tick over even though you have had the pcv fitted and a custom map, I have the Yoshi exhaust which also pulses on tick over and this is one of the reasons I am about to get a PC5 fitted and custom map also K+N air filter ,any ideas why its doing this as I would of thought the pcv and custom map would of fixed this. Cheers Jay
Mines still hunts/pulses with the yoshi and pcv with a custom map. Doesn't do it with baffle in though. Motrac says its normal due to no back pressure as there's no cat and is straight through..... Doesnt bother me though.
well the yoshi pcv and o2 were all bought from the same lad with the custom map already installed so i understand it might not be perfect when running on my bike but i would expect it to be a little smoother than it is
Fez I was talking to Arthur about sharing custom maps the other day and he mentioned that although the bike and mods may be the same, the map could of been seriously altered for a bike that was say running very lean for example so may not be the best idea. Only mentioning as I would hate for you to have your bike off road again mate
Cheers martin. i think i am going to take it for the map to be re done, better safe than sorry as you say
Glad you said that, like you say it could be fine but best to be safe incase anything was seriously adjusted
i know im not educated enough to cast doubt upon an experts opinion but as from my experience my gpr can ran much smoother on idle without any pcv ect and that will have created much less back pressure than the yoshi does so i would expect it can be smoothed out when using a pcv
Try Jordans bikes in Leeds (just off M62 on West side) for the setup / dyno work - prices appear very fair. Bike looks stunning - one question what is the rim tape you have - my white wheels with black bodywork need something to break them up now the blue has been removed. I know I said it you before - but the HM QS has transformed your bike, maybe look for a 2012 rear shock (c.200£) and even with time new 2012 front forks at about 500 sheets and you will have one very sorted Blade - plus you can remove and re-sell those parts if / when you come to sell the bike. Have you put a set of heated grips on it yet? That also transforms the bike at the start / end of the year for these 'cheeky blasts' we all need once in a while
