cheers Andy, will do my best! Just need the rain to stop and the wind to dry the track out, then happy days.
Well, the weekend has come and gone and what a great time has been had. Apart from the weather which today (race day) the temp was 1 degrees and the last race was held with snow falling, it has been epic. Had practice sessions yesterday and the bike was running well. Today was race day, starting off with qualifying. I somehow ended up qualifying in 11th out of 26. Was made up with that as the top 6 riders were young lads with serious 600s. First race I ended up having a bad start and immediately dropped to 16th where I stayed. Not bad really. Race 2 though, I felt happier and got a better start (with no wheelie off the line). I started in 16th place and managed to fight my way to 12th. So overall, I was made up with the day. It has been a genuinely great time and met some genuinely great and friendly guys. I have been thinking about selling my road going Blade as I want to focus on the racing and after today, I am sadly going to part with her. Roll on Oulton Park!
Excellent robin , really pleased for you , See you at oulton mate , pm me couple of days before please .
Well done Robin, sounds like a good time had by all. I actually stayed at home, couldn't be arsed standing outside from 8:30 to 5 - 6 o'clock . Spoke to a mate on Saturday who was marshalling in School sector, he said it was bloody freezing, the breakdown van was showing -2C. We still had snow falling at home on Saturday and Sunday. Nevermind, i'll be there for Oulton in the Quayside Self Drive breakdown van stationed at Cascades. Surely the weather should be better by then??
Thanks for that. It was an epic weekend for me and even the weather didn't really dampen my spirits. I have to take my hat off to all the circuit staff, marshalls, etc. for braving it. Shame I didn't get to meet you over the weekend, but hopefully catch you at Oulton. Without your recovery van I hope!!
You will soon be proper quick fast group material judging by those pictures - but you are made up with it Shame to let the road bike go but I know racing costs a small fortune to take part in.
Thanks for that! I will indeed be sorry to see the road bike go, but I really want to give it my all for racing this year. As you say, it isn't a cheap game and I have only just started!
Well, after much thought and agonising over things, I have finally decided to get rid of the Blade, to focus 100% on my racing. I really was gutted to take it to my local dealer, but needs must. It is in Colwyn Bay motorcycles if anybody here is interested or knows of someone who may be. The details are as follows Honda CBR 1000 | Colwyn Bay Motorcycles At least I have Oulton Park on the 27th to focus on and take my mind off this!!
With just under a week to go until Oulton Park on 27th April, the bike is ready: new oil and filter, brake fluid topped up, smaller rear sprocket fitted, a couple of new coolant hoses replaced, good old check over and clean and new tyres sorted. All that remains now is to load the van on Thursday night and head over there with the caravan in tow on Firday after work. Between now and then though, I am going to keep my fingers crossed for some dry weather for Saturday.
Hi Barney, racing starts at 11.00. Before that we have scrutineering from 7.00 onwards, noise testing, practice and then qualifying. How they plan on fitting all that in within 4 hours I don't know!
Might be there myself if I see you through the Buildbase complimentary section window I will wave a croissant at you .
Very nice indeed Giv! Will keep my eyes peeled for that. Actually save me one and bring it over to the garages
Hi Robin, I'll be there Saturday. Signing on for us is 0700 to 0815 and bikes are on circuit at 9 for practice. I'll probably be based at Cascades in the recovery, ideal if the weather is crap but I'm hoping it isn't like this for everyones day. You in a garage or moored up in the paddock?
Like a complete tosser i got my dates wrong and as such i will be lording it on the Bank Holiday weekend prob Sat 4th /6th May .On a positive note good luck with your racing dude and might tag up with Barney yet to see you.
Was going to say I will give you a wave, but in reality that may end up in you picking my bike up from the gravel trap. I have booked a garage for the day, much easier than the paddock, especially if the weather turns miserable.
Not to worry, these things happen. Thanks for the good wishes and hopefully catch up with you with Barney on Saturday.
