intermittent cut out over 8 thousand revs

    Ive had my 2010 blade for over a year now and covered 6000 miles. Every time the fuel has gone into reserve and i take it over 8 thou revs the engine power intermittently cuts out then in again. Then after i filled up with fuel the engine always ran great. So i always assumed this was ment to happen. preventing high revs and therefore maximise the fuel mileage.
    Last week the same thing happened on reserve fuel, but yeah this time the engine cutting in and out has not corrected. Ive now been told it shouldnt have done this in the first place.
    : Ive replaced the bat.
    : ive checked reg/ rectifier its putting out 14v
    : its not fuel ive purged it and replaced.
    Engine cuts power intermittently anywhere above 8 thou revs. It runs fine at lower revs.
    Has anyone had a similar prob and know what it could be?

    try an ecu reset

    Disconnect battery
    Reconnect after at least 10min
    Start up the beast without touching the throttle
    Let to run until the fan kicks in turns off again
    flick the kill switch off then on again

    Ecu reset sounds like a very good idea. will give it try tomo.

    I had a similar problem just this week, but was all the time not just on reserve.
    It turned out to be a big kink in my fuel line where I had placed the tank down on it.
    May be worth a look

    Yeah, i gave it a go, the prob still not gone away though!!! :confused:
    think im going to have to have it plugged in at a dealer.

    Ive never had the tank off, it is as if the ecu is cutting the injectors or a fuel starvation prob of some sort so still had a look under the tank and all is ok.

    Could be anything I suppose, a plug, an injector so on

    Vacuum in fuel tank caused by blocked breather pipe..?? Does the tank suck air in when u open the fuel cap? Also heard of faulty side stand switch and engine cut off switch causing faults. Have u pressure washed it, possibly getting water in connectors etc..??

    Can't see it being a Kill switch or Side stand switch as OP say's it only happens on Reserve Fuel level.

    Fuel starvation is my guess, as said, partial blockage in fuel line, breather, shyte in tank, clogged fuel filter etc etc

    Thanks for all the helpfull ideas. it ran ok a couple of times today, went smoothly round to the 12 thou rev limit then started missing again. to me that means its not an ecu or sensor prob cos it would be perminant. it does seem like its not getting enough fuel, so going to give it a good strip down tomo and check, clean all fuel lines etc for any crap. A breather line check sounds like a good idea too.

    are you sure you have not cured it. and the missing at 12000rpm is not the limiter kickin in, just a thought

    No, cause it was doing it at 8K as well.

    The fact it sometimes will go to 12K before doing points even more towards fuel starvation.

    With my fuel starvation last week (kink in hose) I could accenerate all the way to the red line if done gently but if I gave full throttle it would accelerate hard upto aprox 8k cut out throwing me forward then cut back in again!
    It sounds like a fuel issue so start with that, as said check fuel filter and lines

    Electrical sensors can not be ruled out entirely either as heat build up can cause them to go hinkey and then when cooled enough they work again till the heat get up again?

    Not sure what way Honda is using to get fuel level data from tank.

    Is there any fault codes recorded in the ECU memory?

    removed the tank and stripped the complete fuel system. found loads of crap in the bottom of tank and clogged tea bag filter at bottom of fuel pump. thought yes, found the fault. showed it to local honda dealer and was Quoted £700 for new fuel pump cos they dont replace the filter part on its own.
    went home cleaned the filter perfectly. reassembled bike confident problem was resolved . Nooooo.. :confused: still missing at high revs. :mad:.
    so resigned i took it to a local honda dealer!!! they haven't got a clue either and wanted me to leave it with them and charge £60 an hour to fault find. first of there going to take out top injectors and send them away. cost approx £400. will that resolve it?? they didn't know for sure.
    I've had similar experience years ago and am not going to be taken again. they could claim assorts of things and replace anything still not finding the fault and you have to pay for the lot.
    Charge for fault finding should be made illegal. its simple robbery. they could take as long and do as much work as they like. and charge what they want.

    Nightmare - you need a mate with an identical bike, a good mechanic to spend a day swapping parts between bikes till you find the part giving the issue - it will be a sensor, connector, clip, or something tiny not put back right or worked loose - its just finding it that is the problem - and as you say £60 soon adds up.

    ive just got a lead from a works tech, who spent 10 years training with honda. He recons it might be a valve thats deep inside the exhaust. its one you cant get too and if stuck will mess the lambda sensor about.
    So yeah swopping parts would be an excellent idea. anyone want to temporary swop an exhaust silencer. lol.

    Yeah cheers Shinyup, the temp might be having an effect. difficult to tell cos it doesn't stay cool for many seconds.
    ive done a fault check on the ecu. it showed nothing !!!

    Do you have a power commander fitted? Could be that

    Buy a really cheap aftermarket exhaust and wack that on, may cost you 100 quid but you will prob get most of that back on a re sale unlike all the 400's and 700's Honda would charge!
