right after the scot trip i now know how crap i am at finding my way anywere and if i lose the pack am feked is there any diffrence to the normal car nav ? and if so what. and which is the best buy because i need one
Bike sat navs tend to have bigger buttons for when you use gloves, bluetooth connectivity for headsets etc., and they should be waterproof. I have a zumo 550 from about 5 years ago and it came with separate mounts for the car and the bike. I used a ram mount to fit it to the bike. Now I just use google maps in my phone with earplugs plugged into the phone. Does enough for me as I tend to know most of the journies I do or I have a mental picture of the route before the off. Obviously getting lost is a pain as you have to get the phone out of your pocket to check the map. Google maps really needs an internet connection but you can get other apps which store the data on your phone. It comes down to how often you will need a proper sat nav as bike ones tend to be quite pricey. If you get one see if it supports the speed camera database from pocketgpsworld, it's saved me a few pounds and points by warning me about scamera locations.
Ill second what Si says, if you have a smart phone (iPhone) it makes sense to get it on your phone. That way you take it with you and it will allways be charged. Just my 2 pence worth. Not showing the iphone itself but this mount seems good so far!
I just use the above mount with a standard Car TomTom VIA 135 in a £15 waterproof case, total cost all in of £200
I have the Tom Tom rider pro, excellent bit of kit and coming down in price all the time. Oh and really easy to use.
Have a zumo 660 and really rate it, and it is so easy to load/unload routes to your PC. It has taken me round UK, Europe and Morocco a few times and never missed a beat. Portugal last Oct.
