Well imagine how much worse they would be racing in tea shirt and shorts, which this thread was all about lol a guy was potted accelerating fast in just tea shirt and shorts. Protection is there to help but down on the damage from an off, but nothing apart from never riding can totally protect form coming off at racing speeds Leather and Kevlar is far better for sliding down a tarmac road than bare skin, or jeans, has this thread morphed a little away from thread topic? We now on about racing accidents I am sure we can all agree on here that riding fast on road bikes in tea shirt and shorts is stupid, just as turning up for a track day wearing just that because it's your freedom of choice, and expect to get on track lol Keep safe guys, I am out of this thread now as its gone off topic Simon
Oh no lets all get super serious about where the banter should be , sorry for BIENG a gooner but I get my arse kicked on a regs about posting in the wrong place I mean cum on its a forum it's for a laugh unless ur a copper and BIENG a spy wich there's a few on here , not racist against em at all I just don't like the smell of raw bacon ( my uncles a traffic cop) thinks he's above the law , then out of work he's a big poooooofffffff Big respect to the squaddies tho " don't kick my arse for posting this here, everyone can have a winge" lm a veteran of BIENG a cheeky tw*t ;-)
Few mentions of you ride safer with less gear but don't forget there's several million tw@ts out there dressed in 4 wheeled armour who don't drive any safer if your wrapped in a mankini or bubble wrap! Full gear for me every day I'm affraid!
Mankini ha ha ha ha bacon ..... Pigs it was a shit joke from a tired rogue on Saturday night , no spies?? Them fuckers are like 007 camping in yer garden to see what car you bring home next coz you run a successfull Buisness at 24 not to mention the boxing and they think ur a dodgy twat !! Jus sayin
im not implying less gear makes you safer but more gear gives you more of a sense of security so you push it more.thats exactly why car drives can be more complacent as they feel so protected in there little metal cage.
I would personally be against any law determining what I should or should not wear on a motorbike, the helmet requirement is enough. Freedom in this country is diminishing by the second. I would not wear shorts on a bike, I just don't have the legs these days to pull it off As to the standard of gear, I agree, some of it will provide little or no protection, whilst some others will. If a seam burst for example, it does not matter if the garment is made from cotton, kevlar or leather, there will be exposed flesh and it will hurt. I think there is also a big difference regarding what type of 'off' a rider has. Sure good clothing is going to help in a slide, (as long as you don't slide into an oncoming vehicle or a following one or into a wall or tree) but if you impact with a vehicle or a static hard object like a wall or tree it is not going to make much difference. I spent just over 22 years as a firefighter and saw some horrific sights, of course we were only called to the ones where there was people trapped, risk of fire etc but none of the riders were wearing T shirts or shorts, all were wearing proper bike gear and most of them were still dead. Biking is dangerous, but there again so are a lot of other things. Last year I was hit by a car whilst walking along the pavement on my way to Tesco's....should all pedestrians wear protective clothing ?.......silly point I know but you can not safe guard against everything. I understand completely that riding in a T shirt and shorts is stupid............but I have done many stupid other things in my life...........but then that is my choice. If we went down the road of ' well they should pay for their medical fees' then I would argue that anyone who has a fag, drinks alcohol, eats unhealthily, fails to get exercise, does any dangerous sport or job should also pay if they get a medical problem..........sounds fair to me.
