BBC Sport - MotoGP: Marc Marquez can win for years, says Jorge Lorenzo Seems like Jorge has decided its no use trying to rein in the new hot shot
I think Marquez has destroyed everyones motivation now for the rest of the season as he's pretty much got the championship in the bag but I think they will all be back on it next year. The way Lorenzo and Marquez battled last weekend was ace but I think that Lorenzo knew that once Marquez was past him and he didn't re-overtake immediately that the young pup would disappear into the distance. Exactly what happened.
It certainly looked like that after the last race, after a great early battle between the pair I thought it was going to be a complete stormer of a race, sitting on the edge of my settee watching every overtake then re-overtake. But once Marquez passed him showing him the edge of the track there was a little shake of the head by Lorenzo then he just seemed to give up
I think, as far as the championship is concerned, Lorenzo knows it's out of his hands, unless Marquez gets 3 DNF's for the last 3 races. But I think he's not going make it an easy last 3 for him if he can push for the wins. IMO Lorenzo cam be quite the spoilt baby when he gets beat and can be arrogant post race, however, he is very professional and probably, in private, he knows Marc is the next step up in riding talent and away from the track and paddock this is him being genuinely gracious and acknowledging the fact.
Lorenzo was suffering from a shoulder injury too wasn't he?But to be honest even if he was fit, Marquez would still have passed him.The young guns are now coming through better than recent years.. It doesn't surprise me cos all sports academies have gone up a few levels bringing in new ways to train kids harder than ever before. We are seeing things like muscle growth problems that are interfering with normal growth at ages 3 or 4 years earlier than normal. This information has come from a mate who trains the under 16s squad at Chelsea.Hopefully we will see more British talent in all sports.
Plus his style of riding is def pushing the envelope further, the knee n elbow down, spinning ip the rear wheel n backing it into corners at incredible speeds, obvioisly the traction control does help, but u gorra have condfidence in the system to use it. U just gorra look at Rossi n Lorenzo, both have started using their elbows as a marker on how far they r leaning the bike over and even in Sepang, Pedrosa got a lean of 60 degress in 1 corner at least. Wil def be interesting when moto2 riders come across to motogp nxt yr who have similar stlyes to Marquez, but we saw wot he did in valencia last yr starting from the back of the grid, how do u run with talent like tHis for lap after lap after lap???
As I said elsewhere on another post, Scott Redding is moving up in 2014 on what is, essentially, a factory Honda, probably not all bells and whistles like the Repsol bikes. But he certainly gave Marquez a few runs to the line in Moto2, if he can get to grips with a full MotoGP bike quickly then we may see some interesting times ahead.
George I don't think would give up. I don't like the guy but this sounds like trying to get yamaha to make a better bike. In the end Rossi made the yam a honda Beater. in a short time. why because he knows what he wants to make a bike go well. he left yam and Honda have got better. George may be a great rider but I don't think he can tell Yamaha how to make it better. But Rossi could. OK Rossi on a Duke but seems ducati are unable to take what riders are telling them and provide a good racing bike I am Enjoying MM putting George and Dani in the shadows. They can't take it a younger better rider has come along and beat them hands down. Now Dani. FFS a good rider but always the nearly man. 7-8 years with HRC and beaten again by a rider who is not used to the bike. I for one enjoy Moto GP this year but won't be buying BT so will have to watch it by other means. Well just a few of my views
Trouble is the Honda RCV is built around Dani / and wotever Casey left behind when he walked away, Marquez has ridden around any probs for sure this yr, wait till nxt yr when the bike is built around Marquez, his gonna be unstoppable!! Im hopeing in a way MotoGP doesnt become like F1, where 1 guy just wins for yrs n yrs n from the front, least when Rossi ruled, he used to mix it up abit, gave us a race for 3/4 of the race with the other riders, even allowing them to pass, before repassing n winning. its wot puts bums on the seats, its y we tune in every w.end, do we really wanna see MM zooming off in the distance every race n watching 3..4..5 places fighting it out to ger sum excitement??????? I know i wudnt ge n wud just catch the result on the news n go out on me own bike instead, but thats my opinion.
Good thread! Dont think Lorenzo has given up, and will ride to the bitter end to hold onto his crown. However Marquez has certainly taken the Moto GP world by storm, and is certainly a rare talent. Having said that so is Mr Lorenzo, Mr Consistent lap after lap. Hopefully between Jorge and Valentino they can drag the Yamaha back to race with the Hondas. My one concern with Mr Marquez is the riding without thought of consequence. Fantastic as he may be and you can't help but marvel at his ability, he does need to reign in just slightly and respect the other riders around him. Or I think someone could get seriously hurt
