paint on wheel rims

hi I have a 2011 cbr1000rr repsol im just wanted to know if anyone has suffered with is problem or is it just me?the problem I have is every time I clean bikes wheel rims the paint turns the cloth orange and is very thin in several places I don't use any strong harsh polish I returned to the dealer where I bought the bike 2nd hand but still under honda warranty but they didn't want to know saying it was this owner over cleaning wheel just wanted to find out if anyone eslse has had similar problem

 

I bought my 2011 new and had just the same problem when I cleaned it, infact I posted it just like you with a pic of the rag, see if you can dig it out? The issue gets less and less over time I just use furniture polish and don't rub too hard on the edges.

It is noteworthy that I have never heard of a Repsol paint rubbing down to the metal, not yet anyway ;-)

 

There you go, I've still got the pic on my phone, this was within two weeks of new

 

I will see if I can find the cleaning cloth to show you just seems the paint is really soft?

Typical out of the factory shite quality.

If you want a decent lasting finish, get them stripped and properly powdercoated, its the only way.

 

I remember seeing posts where people complained of this on the 09 bikes and honda was repainted wheels.. Dont think it was honda UK though was overseas.. Could have been on the RR7 come to think about it but shoddy paint on repsols is a known issue.. Must be as they go so much faster the paint is literally pulled off!!

 

Mine is exactly the same first time i put polish on the wheels & buffed it off my cloth was orange, but no sign of wear on the rim due to this.
Now i just spray the wheels with Muc - Off then rinse

yep mr sheen is about £2.00

 

In lots of polish is a fine rubbing compound, so it does have a slight 'cut' to it. This would produce the colour. I would use a different method. WD works for me and takes the chain fling off no problem.

Flash Citrus Kitchen & Degreaser Spray, this is good to.

 

As Martin said I used baby wipes.. very cheap 80p for 80 and they take the brake dust off and light grime easy, chain fling I use GT85 or WD40 if im feeling skint

Oh and baby wipes are great for flys too, and on the leathers. Also not bad for wiping up when I shit myself haha

 

I haven't found anything that beats Pledge/Mr Sheen for removing crap from the wheels and polishing them up.

Bloody Honda cutting costs.. All of my repsols have done it. The wheels aren't lacquered which is a shame. My pal has an 09 Repsol and his rear wheel has a slight green tinge to it now after bits of paint coming off onto the cloth
