I'm afraid I'm a little out of date with coolants, I have just done a coolant drain on the blade, I went to Halfords to get some antifreeze, only to be confronted with a Choice !(Ho good grief not again). I took the 'Modern' pink stuff. got home mine was green. I read the tin, it said don't mix them, IAT and OAT. so I flushed the system three times and put the pink bugger in. Someone that understands this stuff properly please tell me I've not cocked up. .............. Thanks Mike.
As far as halfords pink coolant goes it's there long life acid free coolant with up to five years usage before changes, blue stuff is meant to be changed every two years and has a different chemical makeup but both based off ethylene glycol. You should be good with what you have done by flushing the system out to remove the blue stuff, if you do mix them it drops the long life pink stuffs life expectancy down to two years, and can cause issues with erosion if blue stuff is used on newer vehicles designed to use acid free pink stuff! As a side note the pink stuff used by Volkswagen Audi group vehicles (its got a specific VAG code similar to VAG friendly engine oils) was brought about due to different precious metal coatings used in the engines which the blue stuff eroded away causing engine damage.
Thanks for that, I was thinking I was going to have the whole thing to do again. I got the pink stuff in the hope of longevity, but I know I'll not cope with it being in the engine more than a year, but hay-ho its in now. The thing that most concerns me is the anti-corrosion aspect, I may try the fancy water stuff next and I can have a vapour about that as well.................... Thanks Mike.
