2012 Anniversary Fireblade Suspension Settings

    Hi Folks,

    I have just bought a 2012, BPF Fireblade. I am 13 stone riding weight and I am looking for suspension settings for fast road riding - mainly twisties. Sag, rebound, compression - front and back, as a good starting point from which I can then fine tune these settings, as needed. Any help will be appreciated, cheers.

    Actually I might copy that... I noticed today some twat has obviously been playing and turned the screws... The left & right are different on my bike.

    Hi mate, 13st here ( a bit more with leathers etc)

    Heres the settings i've used from steve at motrac and tinmouth racing: These are for a 13 st dude!



    Forks:
    - leave in the stock position in the triple clamps
    - set preload to 4 turns in from full soft
    - set rebound at 1 turn out from full stiff
    - set compression at 2 turns out from full stiff


    Shock:
    - leave the preload in the stock position
    - set compression to 1.5 turns out from full stiff
    - set rebound at 2 turns out from full stiff

    That front compression looks well Stiff Si, how do U find that?

    Well the title of the thread is 2012 20th Anniversary so one would assume giving suspension settings for an earlier model with diff suspension a bit pointless?

    quick question sinewave..

    I'm not at the bike and haven't had a look at the suspension yet, but will do so in spain over the next 4 days. On top of the BPF the are 2 screws, one probably being rebound(tension) and other compression(???) where is the preload? bottom of the forks???

    what about the rear shock, also rebound(tension) and compression, preload would be like the older shocks? the bigs crew on the shock spring??

    like I said haven't had a look yet, so only having a guess. If you could point me in the right direction for thursday you'd make me a happy lad... thanks!

    On my 20th Ann bike the two screws on the top of the suspension are labelled... One ten, the other com. The other (preload?) is indeed at the bottom of the forks according to the manual... [I may look this weekend when I copy the 101kg settings... Hopefully I'll lose enough weight to make that valid for me too :) ]

    cheers, wasn't sure as my bike has already been shipped to spain and pick it up tomorrow night and will have a tweek before I hit the track on thursday morning ;)

    Yep, Compression & Rebound at the top and Preload at the Bottom on all Showa Big Piston Forks.

    The latest Kawasaki ZX10R's use these forks as well.

    The rear Showa shock on the MY12+ Blades use adjuster screws for Comp & Rebound and Preload is the traditional Collar and Spanner adjustment.

    I have dialled in Sinewave's settings and allowed a third of a turn less on all adjusters to compensate for a lack of burgers. The rear preload is set the same. I will test this when we have a dry day here in Wales! The settings were all to pot before I changed them - rear rebound and compression were set to max and preload was 2 out of 10. The bike has been a pig to turn into bends, not surprisingly! This will surely get things in the ball park.

    Took the bike for a test ride today on reasonably dry roads but care was needed with gravel/salt deposits mid apex, in many places It now turns in better, but will benefit from a touch extra rebound on the BPF's, and a touch more compression on the rear shock, due to some understeer - trial and testing the next dry day. A little back end wallow would benefit from a touch extra rebound damping, too (I used a third less of a turn on some setting in contrast to Sinewave's, to account for weight difference). I still feel the 190 x 50 profile rear tyre needs to be replaced with a 190 x 55 profile to quicken turn in. What are your opinions on the tyre profile choice? At least I have started to explore what changes can be applied and their result in handling.
