Hello. I received my Gilles AS31GT Rear sets so thought id pop them on. Started with the gear linkage. Took off the OEM. First thing it tells me to do is loosen off one of the mounting nuts which is to be replaced with theirs. Their part has a tapped hole on the other side of the nut for the gear change arm to pivot. So i loosen the nut and begin to wonder why it hasn't come out. It appears the nut is stuck on the stud and has loosened the stud out of its position also. So the nut and the stud are floating as a unit. so i thought No problem i could just remove them both, then take the nut off after its out. But! it wont come out it just spins. What makes things worse is the the stud itself wont tighten back into where its come from and theirs no access behind it. Bit unsure what to do? Has anyone had this problem or any pointers. Ive attached a pic. its the big silver nut M19.
Hi firstly what model blade have you got and are you talking about the nut centre pic which is surely an engine mount have you got a pic which is not so close up to get an idea of the layout
Hi, it is a 2013 model. Yes its the lower mounting bolt. In the instructions for the rearsets is asks you to loosen off the nut and replace it with one of their parts. But as above the nut loosened and is stuck on the stud and as ive kept trying to loosen the nut its turned the stud so it has come out of the engine. Theres no access behind it to so im panicking abit. I've got a pic from earlier the red arrow points to the nut.
Hard to give advice without seeing it but surprised its all turning mine undid with no issues, I'd tighten it back up and take it to dealers myself But that's no real help as I know you just want to fit your rearsets Have you tried jacking engine a touch to allow the rod to re engage where it should as I think the rod supports the rear of the engine ... I could be wrong though Is there an opposite nut on the other side of the bike ?
Pretty sure the Gilles nut just bolts ontop of the thread you can see. The oem one stays behind acting like a spacer so the gear rod lines up to the rose joint and arm on the gear box shaft.. I could be wrong tho but if Memory serves me right that's the way
It's an engine mounting bolt that pushes in from the righthand side of the bike with an Allen head socket.
Hold the bolt with an Allen key on righthand side of bike undo nut on lefthand side of bike then fit Gilles adapter etc etc. You were just unlucky that your bolt is turning in the engine mounts.
Defo have to remove nut and replace with Gilles adapter there are not enough threads for it to be in safety otherwise
Hello all, brilliant advice as ive got it off. I had it in my head it was a short stud that bottoms out. Not a long rod. Just needed a Allen key on other side as Bryan suggested. Im slightly embarrassed but shows you the 1000rr uk community aint a bad bunch at all thank you all. Roll on the sunrise. Finally can get them fitted
