2009 model blade Did a trackday yesterday and I had a weird intermittent problem bike was cutting out (no power) which it did 4 times 3 times just going over hill top at oulton which is a down hill section then also down in to cascades which is also down hill once stopped bike restarted and off I went . So this morning I checked the battery connections and the side stand wiring as I have removed the stand no problems there. So when doing a google search it seems there has been a lot of problems on blades with a faulty engine cut off switch reading some of the posts some identical to mine so has anyone had this problem. Will get it looked at tommorow one thing I have noticed the fuel pump doesn't always come on when you switch bike on sometimes I have to switch off and on again to get the fuel pump to come on it has been doing since the ignition was removed. Plan to also check the tilt sensor location and might even remove the QS but the problem did seem to be as though the bikes power was been switched off. Arthur or anyone any ideas. Cheers Jase
http://1000rr.co.uk/maintenance/16616.htm Take a look at this thread someone posted, seems a good place to start, you never know.
I think so the sections where it happened are very fast bits so as it happened all I was worried about was getting hit from behind and on the 3rd time it nearly did happen. I will take it to my local garage tommorow as I realise it could be a few things causing it my only problem its fine when stationary and I am at sneterton on Friday and I can't test it till then unless I stick a number plate on the bike and risk it .
Where have you got the tilt sensor mounted? Had exactly the same problem when I took my road fairing off and put track on, Id cable tied the bas, ended up getting a proper mount and it stopped instantly.
Mine has cut out on me once. Totally out of the blue, shifted up from 3rd to 4th and it just died. Restarted it and it ran perfect and has not missed a beat since. Very weird
Does sound like the kill switch or tilt switch, common problem that kill switches fail, blade kill switches are prone to cut the ignition and then when touched the burst back into life, if it has played around as you say I'd change it, you can check the normal things like fuel pipe is ok, pump connectors ok etc. Defo dangerous and needs sorting. If you have removed the side stand double check the switch or best remove it and hard wire it.
k So update checked the following 1.battery connections fine 2.tilt sensor which is fine and mounted at the front near nose cone repositioned so it's straight up 3.checked and rejoined side stand wires 4.looked at kill switch and will replace to make sure. 5. I have now removed the HMQS as I have lost confidence in it with the trouble in Jerez and now this ,one thing I haven't mention when the cutting out first happened yesterday I came in and was looking at the quickshifter led and noticed it was set to C+E and have no idea how that happened as anyone that has one knows to change it you have to hold the button in for 5 secs etc.I had not touched the settings on this for several weeks so have know idea how it changed so with that happening and this fault and me going to sneterton next week I didn't want to risk leaving it on. 6.also I have noticed since removing the HM loom each time I switch it on the fuel pump was switching on every time I tried unlike before when sometimes it didn't . I am going to send it to HM for them to do a full check on it including the loom and if ok will sell it then may be get one of the new HM QS if I can justify the price.
Ah ok did you have problems with the QS? If it's set to C+E then it will KILL on up and down shifts, you need to turn off the IG, hold the button, power up IG, wait til display counts down 5,4,3,2,1 and release button on 0, then one short press to move from c to e and c+e, select c for compress and e for expand depending on what direction the load is for an up shift, press and hold to select next option. This will not cause the problem but is best set for one direction only. If the loom is faulty the indeed that could cause the problem, close inspection is the answer, note the GP uses the same style of loom.
That's the thing Arthur but I didn't set it to CE it did it it's self but even when I changed it to the correct setting the bike was still cutting out ,will order a new engine cut switch just to eliminate that's .cheers Arthur
Well don't want to see you spend money on a pop shot mate and there is no guarantee that's what it is but it could be. Was it you who sent a HM back for this problem? I.e cutting out? I get so many emails etc re this kind of thing I get confused who is who...lol
Yes Arthur in November I was at Jerez and bike was cutting out shift was showing on led without touching anything sent it back and they checked it and put a new plug on it seemed to fix it then this so not sure as they never tested the loom that goes on to the plug top coils .
Ok mate, well I think your right, I'd talk to Ben and see what he says, if it's been back once and is still cutting out then maybe a fresh look at it will reveal something. I have seen one before that lost the settings for no reason, tbh it was a well used unit and was beat to bits so was binned but it did indeed reset it's self.
