i always cover it over the mountain at cadwell , i may use it in other places but i am not aware of it.
I use it when braking extra hard. Also use it now and again when coasting to a stop just to keep the disc clean and know it will work when I really need it!
Used it once, my team mate with who I rode for 3 years with always used it( he was slower than me ) he said to try it once, I did and nearly ended up on my bum, with a massive scretching sound I locked up the rear and nearly shat myself.... never again
I use it all the time. For those who think it's pointless Tom Sykes uses his in, mid and out of a turn, according to his telemetry, just thought I'd say like
You should never use it when braking extra hard Ted, unless it's linked in with ABS. When you brake really hard all the weight of the bike and yourself is transferred to the front wheel, so using your back brake in this situation will only lock up the back wheel and due to lack of traction it will skip over the tarmac and feel like chatter! Along with causing your bike to be out of control. If this doesn't happen then you're not really braking hard anyway! The only time I use it is when I'm pulling a wheelie or if you were going over the Mountain at Cadwell. Doing a U turn, pressing the back brake lightly steadies the bike no end! Also in an emergency situation when you really need to brake due to debris in the road on a bend and you're already leaned over. It's far easier to control a rear end slide!
Ey? I'm just trying to get round and stay up right.... Backing it in would also be down with the down changes though mate. Depends on slipper clutch though if I'm not mistaken. Not something I do / have tried / have the skills tbh.
lol, nor me....lol I'm just a Sunday poser loads don't use it, but it's interesting that some of the fastest do, I like to trail a little rear into a turn, just a tiny bit to keep a lead on things when pushing hard, like the other also cover it for anti wheelie etc, I'm from a MX background so it's an old habit sort of thing.
I use mine some of the time. My old gixxer was nearly smashed to smithereens if I had used only my front brake not being able to stop in time.I managed to slide the bike sideways then onto a kerb to avoid hitting Tristram on my first ride out since passing my test. That gixxer had a better back brake than the fronts.I've gotta say the rear is shite on the blade but its there for the hill starts etc.
Use mine all the time on the Blade as it's a C-ABS so have no choice in the matter. On the Track Bike I never use it bar now and again when cruising on a Red Flag just to keep the rust at bay. Read an interview with Tom Sykes and he only uses his rear brake as he's stabilising his bike mid corner while trying to lay down 235 BHP! Dusna really apply to our bikes does it!
Nope never do but when I hit my engine case on honda curve pembrey I run wide onto grass I did scrub a tiny bit of speed off just dabbing back brake . most ex motor cross riders use the back brake a lot more I was pondering Removing mine but has to be there for scrut
