Hi everyone, I have just traded my TDM850 for a 2006 Blade- currently transitioning from silver to Repsol (only because I got a full fairing kit with it and my Mrs thinks orange makes it more visible hence safer HeHe :))

First impressions with her as a commuter into central London are really good! I have spent my 30 years of riding on the likes of Rd350s, FZR600, YZF750, KTM250s, Husky 610SM etc. and was cautiously curious how the blade would compare to my TDM850 which I used for the last 4 years. To my surprise, the Blade is so much easier and almost comfy to ride by comparison; powerful engine puts a grin on my face, and good breaks help with keeping out of trouble. Unbelievably, the Blade's consumption is lower than the TDM's- yeah! :)

My new toy (erm, commuter into London) has done 20k miles and looks to have been looked after. Only slight issue I can find is a slight cold rattle, which I believe may be the dreaded CCT (valves had been checked at the stealers at 16k). Now, I am wondering if any of you have had their CCT replaced and how much it cost you?

Also, I am looking to change oil and filter, and was wondering what brand, type and spec oil (e.g. Motul 7100 10W40 etc.) you would recommend? I have flicked through the forum and found some older threads, so am wondering what the current status quo is?

Ok, enough of me rattling on, looking forward to meeting some of you at some point!

Pics to follow this weekend when I get time and daylight- leaving for work when it's dark, and usually coming home from work when it's dark again, sure you know the story......:D

    Welcome Maxxuk,
As you've already discovered the Blade is a wonderful machine. Can't help with your questions on a 2006 model but there are a lot of very helpful, knowledgable people on here who will be only too happy to help.
I do like pictures though. :D

    Welcome matey.
CCT replacement is a very easy job... haven't done it on an RR6/7, but did it on my previous fireblade (RRY) and it was simple.

Talking of oil, my Castrol Power Racing 4T 10W-40 arrived today for my RR7... was highly recommended, but I think so long as you go for the top-spec motorbike-specific oils, you can't go far wrong.

Cheers guys, thanks for the welcome! Hopefully I will get the rest of the Repsol kit done this weekend (weather permitting as I have no roof over my drive :)), as she looks a bit funny now with Repsol tail and tank, rest still in silver....only half dressed hehe :p

Only challenge may be to get the Renthal bar reverted back to the original handles (current silver front fairing was cut by previous owner to accommodate the Renthal) so the Repsol can go on.

Will get some pics done in the process, promise!

Cheers Si. Did you get a manual CCT e.g. APE or OEM? £120.- is a lot less than I feared.....

Thanks mate! Do you remember how long it took you to do the CCT job, roughly?

Yeah, you're kinda right...on the flipside of it they (Renthals) allow me (6ft) to almost sit upright; nice while filtering through morning-madness-traffic down the A13, but crap when you do 130 down the motorway (Honest, it was an oversight your honour!) and you feel like Hulk has found his way onto your rear seat and is trying to pull your head off your shoulders....'nough said!
