Well took my bike down to my dealer last Friday to have some ASV levers, Samco Hoses and a K&N fitted along with it's 28k service done. Ended up costing £710 to get it all done and when I got my bike back the Yoshi belly pan was missing as the mechanic said he couldn't get it back on there when I had it fitted fine, the clutch lever wasn't fitted properly ended up having to do it myself and to cap it all off there was mucky finger prints all over my clean bike so I had to wash it again when I got it home. Alls well right? WRONG! Set off for work this morning only to stop 2 miles later and find some sort of red watery fluid pissing out from the bottom of the bike however there was no warning lights on the dash etc. Nursed her home and thankfully the wife let me take her CBR 125R Repsol to work so I didn't have to suffer the indignity of the train. To say I was pissed off would be an understatement currently waiting for the dealer to open so I can give them a right earful...
Yeah just called the dealers and put a right rocket up them they are now apparently sorting out having the bike collected but what really pisses me off is that my blade was in perfect working order before it went in there now it's all wonky and wrong. Having it spill its guts on me this morning has really made me loose faith in the bike now. Thinking I will be on the phone to Park Lane BMW on my lunch to see what they can do me on a BMW S1kRR as I can't trust this dealer any more...
I can't imagine losing faith in the bike after something so trivial. As for the dealer.....yeah I wouldn't be taking my bike within sniffing distance of their place again. I'd get them to fix it. Get on with enjoying riding it and never give them any of your money again. I'm sure the bike's fine. At the end of the day any machine can lose its coolant or whatever it is if a clip / bolt's not been tightened correctly. It's an inept mechanic / shonky dealer problem. Not the bike. No need to chuck the baby out with the bathwater, old chap.
It's a fair point that you make dude. Just going to bug me now everytime I get on the thing what's wrong with it now etc.. Once the situation has been rectified I'll be taking it down to Essex Performance for a complete work over I know Andy there is really good and I trust him to get the job done.
Name and shame the dealer dude !! Let him be boycotted !! Doing a shite shoddy job is one thing... Not fitting bits back on and leaving dirty finger marks is just bullshit ! The guy obviously consistently fails to reach the low standards his set himself !! Name and shame....
It was Belle Vue in Southend buddy. Shame really as they did a great job before last week and had been really good during the sale of the blade to me etc but have to say I felt really let down this time as I have already spent a good 7+ k with them on buying the bike and after market goodies already to then get the bike back in such a poor state and to have the belly pan not fitted back properly as I asked for it to be really boils my piss. I'm not an unreasonable man but when I ask for something to be done and I'm paying good money that I have had to work hard to earn I expect it to be done.
Oh boy i know that feeling... Bought my R1 (when i had it) brand new from Wigan Yamaha, did my 600 mile break in and took her back for first service. I asked them not to ride it in the rain or leave it in the rain and please be gentle. Picked it up a couple of days later and noted that it was filthy, it had clearly been ridden in the rain and left out in the rain. Started it up and a cloud of smoke engulfs me and the bike, thought ok perhaps thats the new oil filter and oil. Riding it home i knew right away something was wrong, it rode like a 50cc moped, just no power. Once home i put it on the paddock stands to investigate and straight away found they had over filled it with oil, we took 2 litres out just to get it to the correct level also there was fairing damage. Never again did i go back and made them pay for the fairing damage.. This is why i would only work on my bike myself or if there was something beyond my ability then would use someone like Arthur. What i like about Arthur and people like him is the fact that they treat your bike as if it was their pride and joy and thats what you want.. I do hope you get this resolve Nick, i feel your pain mate...
Thanks Matt sorry to hear of your woes too. To be honest this isn't my first rodeo with shoddy dealers had the same with a previous dealer that I used to buy all my bikes from and finally thought my luck had changed and I had found a dealer that would take great care of my bike as I do. What struck a chord with me was when i took it in Friday and the mechanic who I hadn't seen before picks up my ASV levers and goes "Ooh what are these for then?" I thought f*ck me please don't let that idiot work on my bike if he doesn't know what levers are for ffs... I had a pretty steaming conversation with the dealer this morning and said I don't want that f'in monkey near my bike again which, they have agreed to so at least somebody competent can fix the problems that the stupid moron has created. There was also scratches on the blue belly pan that weren't there before obviously from where he has buggered up the install of the Yoshi belly pan and they tried to tell me that it was wobbly when it was on there before to which I said hang on just a damn minute it was on there perfectly fine before and I know every inch of my bike so i'm not likely to scratch the bike by trying to force something to fit am I!? They then relented and agreed that in fact I did know my motorcycle... just unreal what a sh*tty start to the week.
Bike is being collected now they have promised to rectify all of the faults and have said they will give the bike a full valet even though it's immaculate right now but hey ho shall see what happens but apparently their directors are informed.
Good luck with it Nick. Whenever I have my car serviced I always ask them not to wash it when they've finished as it's invariably dirtier than before they start.
Lol my point exactly mate seems senseless cleaning something that is already immaculate. I'm more interested in having my bike back waiting at home for me when i get in tonight rather than a full bloody valet that will no doubt get covered in crap when I use it in the rain tomorrow lol. That is of course if they remember to actually fit everything back on the bike this time...
Sorry to hear about your bad experience mate, hearing this more and more and reinforces my decision to always service/repair/modify my own bike. I'm no mechanic but most things can be done at home and as has already been said, use this site for recommended specialists should the job be a bit outside of your capabilities. My mate put his bike into a Honda dealership for a routine service and they forgot to put the new oil in! Nuff said!........
Thanks mate well official word back is that I won't be getting the bike back tonight they were offering a full valet as compensation I told them to stick that I want money off my next service which, they have agreed to. However when i asked the direct question of what caused the problem and how much damage has been done they bypassed it with the "all is going well so far" line which, I have ignored and asked the direct question again. Bottom line here is without being or sounding paranoid as this isn't my first rodeo in dealing with experiences like this I am beginning to think whatever was done was definitely a result of shoddy workmanship and that it has caused a certain amount of damage that they can't be certain yet how bad it is so don't want to tell me the truth. Not a smart move in my book. If I don't get a full detailed explanation of just what in the blue fcuk went on with my bike then I will be refusing to take the bike back and they can buy it off me and I'll just take the cash and go somewhere else.
Just received this response through - The coolant leak was from a short piece of hose that sits under the injectors, it has two clamps which were both tight enough however one needed to be repositioned slightly for it to get a better grip on the hose and pipe that it joins to. The tech that worked on your bike previously does not work on a Monday so I have had another guy doing the work today. I will be making a note on your file that you do not want the previous guy working on your bike so when you book in it will flag up on our system. Can't say I am overly happy with that explanation that sounds suspiciously to me like there was a problem but we aren't admitting that problem was our fault etc.... Not happy going to think about this over night I think.
No big problem mate, they fitted samco hoses and didn't fit one correctly, or tighten it enough, done the same on my own bike and realized it while lining up to hit the track... Pretty **** that they scratched your panel, but getting the head mechanic to do all your work now would be the best way to go forward. I would get them to replace the scratched panel, they should have insurance for these sort of things.
I get your point on that one but I'm sort of big on honesty was always raised that way and why they couldn't simply say "Nick we are sorry we f'd up but we are working hard to put it right" is beyond me. I would be far more satisfied with a straight forward honest response than one that tries to cover it up and take no responsibility for blame feels like a bit of an insult considering I've put a lot of money that I worked hard to earn their way in the last 6 months can't help but feel a bit cheated. However since I do have them over a barrel I'm thinking now might be a good time to see exactly what kind of a deal they can cut me on a new SP...
Well at least they did change that hose to a Samco, I'm sure a really dodgy dealer would have ignored it completely as it's virtually invisible once the bike is back together. Here's photo of the ones I fitted to mine in that area If you are using the Samco stainless clamps it's quite easy to overtighten and crush the pipe it's attached to. So always wise to go easy but then also very simple to run the bike up to temperature and check for leaks before giving the bike back to the customer.
That pic is a good idea of what mine should look like when its all back from the dealer Even after my clean my bike looks filthy compared to that picture but guess 80k through all sorts of crap takes its toll
