Just spent 4 days at hospitals with my 14 year old who has not been feeling great for the past few weeks but doctors first put it down to a bug/virus then after testing a urine sample that had blood in it they said it was an infection. Prescribed antibiotics but he got no better so they tried another kind to see if they worked.

After a few days he said he felt a little better so went back to school but on the second day back he took a turn for the worse and I had to go and get him and took him back to the doctors who after watching him being sick rang the hospital and we went straight up.

Loads of tests later then a ct scan resulted in the cause being found. He has 3 or 4 stones in his right kidney but a massive 14mm stone blocking the tubes from his kidney to his bladder, no wonder the poor bugger didn't feel well !

Transferred to another hospital who had to operate but could not remove the stone as it had totally blocked the uretha which caused back pressure in the kidney and the urine could not drain which could be very dangerous so they had to fit a stent between the kidney and bladder by forcing it past the stone.
This allowed the kidney to drain which saved it thank god.

He was peeing pure blood which has eased slightly but still not great and he is now waiting to go to another hospital who specialise in these things for them to remove the stone somehow, they haven't decided yet exactly how but after the pain he is experiencing after this he insists they are not getting it out the way they got the stent in, I will leave that to your imagination but it is not pleasant !!

Once they get the stone out he then has to go back to the hospital who fitted the stent to have it removed.

Me and the wife took turns to stay overnight at the hospital, not that we slept at all so all of us are knackered.

Hopefully they get this sorted out quickly but they said that now the stent is fitted we will have to wait until the other hospital can 'fit us in', cannot complain about the NHS though, they staff were lovely. They deserve a medal in the A&E department, it was full of piss heads, the local druggie scum and people from village of the damned, all shouting, arguing, fighting etc with the police and hospital security, they want putting down half of them. That was a qquiet night apparently and the pubs were not out yet !!

14 is very young for kidney stones. I thought they blasted them with cross point lasers these days. My dad suffered with them and I have had the passing a few grains of grit when peeing too, they felt like boulders. All the best to you all and I mean all as overnighters with kids in hospital is draining.

Poor lad, I hope he gets well soon. I know people who've been through child birth and said stones is worse, and they were talking a bout a 6mm stone not the bolder your lads carrying around.
Also my gaffer has just undergone three laser treatments on his kidney stone and might be looking at keyhole surgery as his next step, but I suppose every case is different. Wish him our best.

Cheers guys, yes 14mm is some size.

Must be a family thing, I have had them as has my brother, my mum lost one with stones. The hospital still said he was very young to have one that size. I think passing it is not an option !!!

I was very ill once about the same age, pneumonia, remember thinking while looking out the window of ITU to this day how fragile my life is, something changed in my mind set after that.

Hope all works out well mate, best wishes to your lad.

As for the drunks I have been in and out A&E many times, near did a Del Trotter to one twat one night!!! They should be thrown out!

I knew it could get a bit mad in A & E but this was ridiculous. You had to cjeck in at the main A&A before going through to the kids department and they were pushing and shoving to get to the front of the queue. I had my son next to me and one of the pc's noticed they were getting too close for my comfort so escorted one of them away.
I was speaking to him and the security and they said on Friday and Saturday they nearly have a police force in the hospital along with the security.

Half of the clampets were in onesies, kids in pushchairs at 1am, half of them there was nothing wrong with them, just wasting peoples time.

Thanks for the messages of support everyone, he is dreading the stone removal next !

Hope the little man is feeling better, u know where we are if we can help

The people who work in A and E deserve a big pay rise having to put up with all the c**p they do.
