Hi all My 2006 cbr1000 clutch is causing problems at 5000rpm, if I accelerate hard it slips and doesn't accelerate, has anyone experienced this and if so can you shed any light? It doesn't happen every time but more often than not. The rev needle shoots up and back down but the bike doesn't accelerate as it should. Any tips appreciated. Also it has semi synthetic oil in so that isn't the problem. Thanks
sounds like a worn clutch pack,is it standard or an after market. relatively easy to take out and check thickness and condition of steels+friction plates. clutches run at quite low tolerences so even a couple of mm out they will slip.
If you have fitted after market levers you might want to check the piston locating pin is correctly engaged.
standard clutch with standard levers. Presume clutch has never been changed - will check service history later, bike has done 15,000 miles. I've had it for half of those miles. I will probably get a mechanic to look at clutch plates etc as I don't really know what I'm looking for. Anyone know how much it'll cost to fix if needs new clutch/new clutch plates or both? Thanks
Hi Barns . Sorry to hear about your clutch mate. Lost your way to Orpington then? There is some unfinished with your bike.
Wrong oil???????????????? Has the clutch res level dropped ? My clutch has done 30,000 hard miles and performs perfectly.
Would have to say that 15000 miles isn't a high mileage so first thoughts would be something other than clutch plates but you never know. Shouldn't cost that much to replace, about 1 hours labour plus parts.
Thanks for the input gents, I might change oil for re-assurance anyway. Mickey (Masterblader) is going to sort it out, he's the man! The clutch fluid level has gone down slightly yes Haggler.
