Interesting read, I won't thrash my bike when cold. Allways wait 10 mins untl it goes past 5k. When it's warm that's a diffrent matter! Interesting regarding 3k oil change..
Modern oils are capable of high milage, it's defo a feel good factor for those who choose to change oil each year regardless of mileage, most of the time it's pointless and a waste of good oil, I have people inc myself who run at both ends of the spectrum, I.e high grade oils in performance bikes that get used once in a while and snotty commuter bikes that get a dose of low grade un branded oils now and then, funny how most of the high millers get the crap cheap oil but ride on and on, in some of my cases 150,000 miles and more, as the article says it's identifying the brake down of the oil that's the problem, once an oil reaches this point lubrication factors no longer perform and engine ware takes place, also an old oil is full of carbon deposits and other contaminants that also cause engine ware. End of the day you can only keep an eye on oil by means of measurement, temps and ware clearances are a main factor to watch when evaluating an oil and it can only be done over a number of miles. It's human nature to want to protect what we own so we often use the best branded oil that's used or recommended by a manufacture of a bike, after all what more can you do and if you do get a problem you would only blame the fact you used a cheap un branded oil when it prob plays little role in any engine problems you may have encountered.
I 'waste' my money on this stuff, but get a warm fuzzy feeling doing so which just about justifies the £50/Can price tag!
I use Castrol power one racing 10w/30 . Change oil an filter every 1500 miles . K&N or Genuine Honda oil filter .
I use 300V in my Duc and CPOR 10-30 in the blade and like many change it each year. Silk comp 4 in my TDM, Castrol and TruBlu stabiliser in my Motard, tbh I use many brands of oils across the range. Btw I never meant quality oil is a waste of money just binning it early is, however in my trade you have to scratch your head when you rip down engines that have run a 100k clicks on cheap oil and they are spot on...lol The GREAT oil debate.
