I've had 3 bikes at once in my garage before and never smelt petrol, but at the moment I only have the cbr1000rr4 in there and there is a very strong smell of petrol. There is a ally aftermarket fuel cap fitted but it looks ok. Any ideas gratefully received.
ask a silly question........ check the bike over, take off the fairings and look for any damp, fuel pooling on the back of the engine.could just be a poorly fitting fuel cap.
If you smoke it's a good time to stop I agree with above, either cap not sealing correctly or overflow.
I've lifted the tank today to have a look around and there are no vent or breather pipes connected, curiously, the pipe that runs down the left fairing which is supposed to be disconnected when lifting the tank was still there, though obviously not attached to anything. Would the fact that these pipes don't exist be the cause? I can see from the haynes manual the large breather pipe connects to the tank and a smaller pipe that also connects to the tank that has a T piece and a long length of pipe that then runs off somewhere. Where does this smaller bore pipe run off too? Also, where is best to buy spares as the tank bolts where missing as well. Many thanks.
For the bolts, i'd just contact an ebay breaker. I can't really help with the pipes though, although i would have thought that any breather outlets would still function ther than no leading down to the ground. The only ones i know of feed off from under the filler cap (overflow) and run to the bottom of the bike.
I put tape on the two vent pipes coming out of the bottom of the tank last night and the petrol smell in the garage is certainly better this morning. So I guess I now need to find these missing pipes and where they lead to.
