I have a plugger kit that I carry round with me, but I have never actually used it. Not wanting to use it for the first time whilst sat on the side of the ride I thought it would make sense to have a go before hand. I don't have any old bike tyres to try it on, but I do have an old Landrover tyre. Would a bike kit work on the landy tyre or would it be too thick/chunky for the plugger?
Don't know what kit you have but I practiced with mine on an old bike tyre but it would easily have gone through a car tyre. Mine is one of the type that inserts a mushroom plug..... great bit of kit and leaves an excellent repair
Cheers Martin, for the offer of the tyre and unlocking the thread Think you are too far away to make it worth while.
Got a mushroom kit as well, carry it in the car too when not on the bike. Not had to use it yet but be a good idea to practice. What I do have is a very good YouTube video guide saved to my phone if I do need it.
Got the RAC cover, but better to fix myself if I can rather than spend twelvety hours stuck on the side of the road
The most common type i have seen is the fiber plugs. In fact when i was in dubai, some typre shope use this as a permanent repair on car tyres rather than the proper method! worrying! ONe thing i recommend is you carry more CO cartridges than supplied as they do not inflate nowhere as much as you would think. Although i have not used one myself, but the punctures i have had before were all at an angle to the tyre as opposed to perpendicular. this means the mushroom stem will be at an angle; based on this, i would prefer the fiber plug for emergency repair. there is a screw on plug type as well if anyone has experieced
