The bike's not long been in for a service and I've noticed that it's developed a problem since I got it back. If the bike's cold then it seems like there's low pressure inside the tank and I have to pull the filler cap up and there's suction when I do. When the bike's hot it's the opposite. There's high pressure in the tank and the filler cap pops open like a champagne cork and there's a release of vapour. I'm guessing that when they were servicing it they've kinked or pinched the vent pipe when they've had the tank up and then put it back down. Does that sound about right?
Then yes, I would go with your thought, the tank has been up, and they trapped or kinked the overflow. If I remember right, it has a join near the left hand foot peg, and sometimes people forget to undo this before lifting the tank, so when you put it back down it gets trapped.
+1 on that, The tank is certainly not 'Breathing' Hot = Pressure.... Cold = Vac. It all points to breather. Mike.
It does have a join, yes. I know this from the last time I had the tank up when I changed my cam chain tensioner. I disconnected it and reconnected it. I checked it last night and it's connected so they've obviously hooked it back up but my guess is that that vent pipe is kinked further up underneath the tank. I'll lift it and see if I can locate the problem.
Hi Bororich Had the same problem, mine was a breather pipe but a short one that came off a t piece under the tank,I replace this with a longer piece of pipe and ran it out to the inside of the right fairing panel, had no issues since Cheers Stu
Hi Bororich Mines a 2011 model but I'm guessing the same setup under the tank. The pipe mentioned that runs out of the left hand faring panel is just an overflow and not a breather, the breather is a short piece of pipe on mine and gets trapped when you lower the tank back down, because I put a longer piece of pipe on mine I'm able to blow down it to make sure it's not trapped after lowering the tank back down. Hope this helps Stu
