Well my Hell braided hoses look great but I just can't get a decent handful of brake. I have pumped 500ml of brake fluid through the front brakes and they still aren't right. Any ideas anyone? Steve
Okay Didn't know there was a nipple on the reservoir maybe that's it I'll have a look. Steve - I rocked the bike and worked the lever and a load of air came up from the slave cylinder. I've never known this before! S
Always, always check the reservoir Try to lean the bike (as far as you can), both sides, shake the reservoir and work the lever... you will be surprised how much bubbles you will see
You'll have a bleed nipple on the master cylinder bleed that first then the calipers and you should be fine
Peter I did the whole shake from side to side thing and loads of air came out. I need to find the bled nipple on the master cylinder and get some more brake fluid. Thanks gents
Anyone tried those stahlbus speed bleeders. Planning on putting some Hels on at some point and these look great if not pricey? Stahlbus Speed Bleeder Valve - Demon Tweeks Anyone used or got them?
Easy way to do it is to reverse bleed go to your local farm shop and buy the biggest plastic syringe you can find remove the bleed nipple wrap the threads of the nipple (just the threads don't block the holes with a turn of ptfe tape and re fit them finger tight fill the syringe with fresh brake fluid fit the syringe to the nipple with a short piece of plastic tube push the fluid from the nipple to the master cylinder (keep emptying the master cylinder so that it does not overflow) when you can see no more bubbles coming into the master cylinder close the nipple repeat on the other calipers. advantage is that you are not pumping the lever and aerating the fluid once you have got a brake pull the lever back towards the bar and strap it in that position with a tie strap or similar (hang a weight on the back brake pedal) and leave over night this method is guaranteed if you prefer you can use the syringe to pull the fluid through the lines from the master cylinder via the nipple it works well that way too but you need to get someone to keep topping up the master cylinder Ian
Errr not yet Steve. I gave a 4pm deadline to have the bike done before going out with Tash, "I'll easily have the bike done by then". I know better than to push my luck Away for a few days now so will have to pick this up again on Fri. I need some more brake fluid anyway!
Thanks Steve I can see the bleed nipple now on the master cylinder. I'm sure that's the issue. Don't know how I missed it, but then again I've never known a nipple on a master cylinder before so I wasn't looking for one. S
I have always bleed the MC on the bikes as part on any brake bleed procedure, newer bikes tend to have a bleed nipple at the MC but if not the banjo nut can be used to good effect to remove any air out of those that don't have any bleed nipple at the MC. On occasion the banjo bolt may still need to be utilised in addition to bleed nipple in order to removal all the air at the MC normally due to the lever angle/orientation currently set up on the bike. Work your way systematically through the system from top downwards and you should be fine. I have never really liked the idea of using the reverse bleed method as it means any dirt & particles in the fluid are not removed as your workin against gravity and the normal flow of the fluid. But each to their own I guess and hope it works out for you.
Never had a issue with bleeding no fancy kit just a pipe and a bottle. Fill res with fluid . Pump brake 4 5 times hold crack nipple on master cylinder do this 6-7 times . Then go to the left caliper repeat as master cylinder then go to right caliper do the same finish off with the master cylinder again this should give you a firm brake lever . Leave cap off res over night with a cable tie holding brake on. I bleed my brakes on race bike every meeting
