Just had my quick shifter delivered today. Has anyone got any fitting tips - which side of bike to run cable loom - LCD position etc? Also the blade has 16000 miles on the clock so would this be a good time to replace the plugs while everything is off the bike or are they good for a while yet? Thanks - Steve
Thanks Scott - does the complete air box have to come off? Just watched a video and the air box was lifted but not completely removed but I think it was a 2007 blade.
I'd be putting a new Air Filter as well as plugs in at 16K, also ya valve clearances are due at that mileage!
There are some guides on youtube, the RR4-7 is similar to later models, in short.. Tank cover off, fuel tank out or prop up, best to remove left hand panels, air box top and lower section, some electrical to deal with as well as hoses etc, when you reach coil packs connect up the coil loom, locate the connector where you can get to it without going back over what you have done, left side by the starter/engine is good then you can reach in and get to it. Don't forget the earth - starter mounting bolts is a good place for it. (IF you have a GP then you need to connect up the VSS and Crank sensor wires, instructions show you where etc), Replace all the removed items, change the shift rod and install the sensor, again guides on youtube from HM, once done you can power up, set the sens and kill time as well as the direction of shift and your done..
Mine came too, started to fit it as well as new Q A throttle which is giving me all sorts of issues so have only completed half the SS install... I do have a quick question for Arthur though. When reading the instructions it says that you need to press and hold the gear shift lever in either direction while the bike or sensor is off, turn bike on and release shift lever when the count down hits 0. Then the HM Plus SS is in Set up mode??? This is where the instructions stop, am i right in thinking that you then use the shift lever to go through the settings as you would if you had that little button on the back?? Thanks...
Filter is a BMC so will only need a clean and oil but still thinking about the valve clearances. £350 quoted at local Honda dealer. Could have a go myself I guess and if all goes tits up get the dealer to do it.
Yes once in setup mode toggle up and down with the lever, to select your option and move to the next menu hold the lever up or down until the next option is shown
could anyone tell me the length of shift rod required for a 2012 bike, can't get to my bike til the weekend ...ta
Arthur do you need any gaskets or the like when replacing the cam cover after the valve clearance check?
No, if care is taken it's not required, a new gasket should be used but I've never needed one, if they leak I'd fit new but they never have
Thanks Arthur I think once the bike is taken off the road for the worst of the winter I've got nothing to lose in having a go at the valve clearances.
Easy to check, harder to correct, biggest problem with correction is space, and the cams are tight to the frame making it hard to see timing marks, I always mark them and count the links so I can have two ref points!
