For some years now, I have used nothing but Dunlop Sportsmarts both old and new "2"s. I have found to be brilliant all year round and I am getting 5 to 6 thousand miles from a set on my Blade. Need to get a fresh set of tyres and I have noticed that a lot of you guys on here seem to be very keen on the Michelin PR4's So....do I stick with the Dunlops or shall I have a try on the PR4's????? What say you? PS I use a 55 profile on the rears. I assume the PR4's come in that profile???
" I am getting 5 to 6 thousand miles from a set on my Blade " Are you riding around at half throttle !!..................the most I have ever ever ever got out of a rear tyre is 3000 miles!..............and that was a Avon which started life with 6mm tread. ( note to ones self....F*CKING SLOW DOWN TWAT!! )
PR4's are probably a better choice than Sportsmarts if you're getting 6,000 out of them, they're not getting hot enough!
Yes PR4's are the Doggies Chopper of all year round Tyres and yes they come in a 55 rear, had some on my Blade.
I get them nice and hot! I'm lucky enough to live on the Welsh border and spend most of my time on the sides rather than the middle of the tyres! I avoid motorway riding wherever possible!!! I used to get 2500 miles out of most other brands of tyre but the Dunlops do last much longer. Photo from a recent ride in Snowdonia! The tyre had done over 4000 miles by then!
Perfect, I changed to Sportsmart 2 after getting 1700 out of a S20 Pro (no track / no motorway). So hopefully I should see a massive improvement in mileage, although they are barely scrubbed in and the bikes in hibernation so it will be next year before I find out now. If the sportsmarts last the season I'll be well happy (~4000).
Im enjoying the PR4s (from a michelin hater in the past too). much better in the wet stuff too. only done 2000 on them so far so can't comment on life yet!
Well, I have ordered the PR4's, so we will see how they compare to the Sportsmarts, which have always been superb in the wet. Their grip in the wet has always exceeded my bravery ! Never had a slippy moment until a recent rainy ride in North Wales, where the council have filled faults in the road surface with some weird tarmac that seems to behave like ice when wet. My friend was behind me on his Michelin shod Blade and we had both had front and rear tyre slippage on the same bits of road where these repairs had been done. Very dangerous.
