    Hi All,

I've just purchased a 2010 Fireblade in 'panda' livery after over 50,000 miles and nearly five years of riding R1's ... I'm looking forward to the change but I've no idea what to expect or know anything about Fireblades which is a shock to the system given I do all my own work on my bikes.

The Fireblade has only done 3,500 miles from new so I'm hoping it will be literally brand new. I've not actually seen or ridden it yet... It was somewhat an impulsive buy after the R1 giving me a bit of trouble lately!

I've no doubt I will have plenty of questions soon but for now I thought I would say hello!

(Then we can talk about mods to the bike... ;) )

Thanks all for the welcome... :)

Ta for the workshop manual download.

Time to ask a few questions... the excitement is building up for collection tomorrow.

    So...

    ... the boring stuff first...

    - How big is the fuel tank and what is the typical range / mpg in commuting use?
    - How easy are they to self-service and how often?
    - anything to watch / check before I pay for the bike tomorrow?

    Right that's out the way...

    - what exhaust? - any issues with removal as they have a flapper valve inside? I like the Racefit but seem loud / expensive?

Pictures... they are all I have atm.

Fuel tank is just shy of 18 litres (17.7) range will be how hard you ride it, with my racefit and power commander fitted I get about 130 miles before reserve light comes on, that's with all round riding so town and fast road.

08-11 model service intervals are 4000 miles, valve shims at 16k

Exhausts are take your pick, I've got a racefit and yes loud but excellent build quality, if getting one get a Growler end cap so you can fit a baffle. Budget for an exhaust servo replacement module (£40) so you can junk the servo and cable.

Some early models did burn oil but if less than a litre per thousand miles that is acceptable

18L is the same size as my R1 so on the commute should be an easy 140 miles before the light comes on ... assuming 45mpg.

Just been reading the workshop manual and it states 8,000 miles for service intervals on the 08> ?

I've been reading up on exhausts and it seems to make them run well after fitment you need Power Commander and mapping so I'm going to wait for a bit and do the lot all in one go.

I've seen 50MPG touring doing over 90MPH in Spain. I've had as little as 90 miles before the light when on a blast on the road but over 150 miles before the fuel light comes on.

Impressive... my commute is 32 miles each way of dull motorway sitting at 70-80 ... hence averaged 45mpg over 20,000 miles ... with 145 miles before the fuel light came on and a further 25 miles on the fuel light. That's with 157bhp @ the rear wheel so I'm hoping this Fireblade will be better / similar...

I'm not bothered what it does on fast road riding or track days as that's fun not commuting boredom ;)
