I've been with Virgin Media in their various forms now since the beginning, but am fed up of their insistency to allow me to just have a basic Broadband package and save me the cost of TV/Phone. To top if off they have just put their prices up again.

Who do you guys use (bear in mind that I don't have a BT land line) as I fancy chasing a new Broadband deal.

    Had no issues whatsoever

I am locked into Talktalk until May and then I am out of it .I am sure they are slowing the speed down so I will get the magic router which for an extra five pounds a month I can get extra speed ! I tried to phone them on Sat but the goon said they where having some issues and could I call back Sunday so I tried the one to one over the computer but after starting to explain the problems I got the same tale so thanks but no thanks ...More than likely getting BT due to the Moto go and next year Champions league football .This is of course another rip off .Pay your BBC license fee ,Pay for Sky ,and now have to pay for BT Sports WTF.

Talktalk for now, tried bt a while ago so they might be better now, but then I didn't have a good experience and don't fancy them again, where as at the moment things are fine, stuck in my village with no fibre to my door but pay for 38gig and get that, which is fast enough for me :)

Looks like I may need to get a BT line installed then, even if it's through SKY.
How much are you guys paying, I'm at £35pm with Virgin.

I have Virgin but was with telewest before Virgin bought them. As for Broadband they are not the cheapest but I've not had any issues with them much over the past 10 years.

On 100Meg Fiber. I can download movies, stream youtube vid for the kids on their iPads and laptops and still play online gaming with little or no lag. and not download limit means that

I have needed to download 40Gig Xbox 1 games and it's taken about 2 hours. but other broadband users will have a monthly limit of 20gig. no good for me

I have Virgin phone and broadband, But Sky for TV as I did not like Virgin Tv and jumped ship and never looked back

I was with Talk-Talk via the PostOffice as they switched from using BT as a supplier. The day I asked for a MAC to move to BT my broadband speed almost halved. The day it switched to BT it magically fixed itself. I went BT as there was a good deal on offer and it meant I got MotoGP. Have previously used PlusNet and they were good and have proper uk based support and not someone in a foreign centre called Dave/James/Andrew with an accent so thick that you would need s stihl saw to cut through it.

I'm a Sky Fibre BB, Phone & TV subscriber - have been for over a year. Never had a problems and speed is really good considering I was lucky to get 2Mbit on ADSL. My Mum lives a few miles away (same exchange) and has TalkTalk, which is rubbish. Really slow, drops a lot and customer service based in Bangalor...

we were with ee for about 10 years. it started as freeserve, then wanadoo then orange then ee. to be fair they were brilliant never any troubles and always polite and easy to deal with. i gave in earlier this year and went back to bt to get the sport pack free. bit of a mistake to be honest. getting less speeds than we were with ee and every time you call to discuss the issue they say we,ll get an engineer to call back, never had a call back yet. won,t be staying with them for much longer.

I'm in a lucky place where BB is concerned - I actually work for BT and get fibre Infinity unlimited for free - along with BT Sport, so cant complain. Last test I did was 80mb download. I've no particular axe to grind with any BB supplier - would I be with BT if I didn't get it for free ? Really dont know ... but I've had no issues at all.

I do see some offers within the company and this one recently came out for Friends and Family - I'm sure all you guys count as my friends :)

Try here ... BT Broadband - Friends and Family

Not sure how good or bad this is compared to other suppliers, but have a look. I wont be offended if it's cr*p !

Tell me one thing Geordie. If my current Bt wire is underground and pops up near the front door in an external box once I apply for BT broadband ie fibre do BT run a new cable from the Green distribution box which is about 400 Mts away ? The reason I ask is that my close is private ( unadopted) so is they can't send a new cable down an external duct because it had collapsed or perhaps there isn't one what would they proposed.

I'm by no means an expert on BB (I work on Call Centre technology !) but this is how I understand it ...

The fibre route is from the exchange closest to you, to your nearest street cabinet - as you say, 400mts away. The link from the cabinet to your house remains the same as always - on a copper cable. I think this is why the speeds are variable - the closer you are to the cabinet, the faster download speed you get.

So no, I dont think there will be a new cable installed.

If there are any Openreach engineers on the Forum - feel free to contradict me !

About right there Geordie, the Bt guy installed all the gubbins in our house, then went to the green box, twiddled with a few wires, then bobs your uncle. No digging of roads or pavements.

There are basically 2 fibre technologies for home bb from BT.

FTTH - Fibre To The Home. This is the best and as it says you have a fibre connection all the way to your house.
FTTC - Fibre To The Cabinet*. The nearest green box has a fibre connection, but then it is copper to your house. This is the cheapest and most common solution.

    * The cabinet is the green box out on the street. BT love sticking loads of fibre ads over them if they have fibre, but you can also recognise them as they are taller than the old cabinet and have vents on them.
