I think it's 2 different types of lithium battery.
1 is a Lithium the other is a Lithium Iron Phosphate
I have the LiFePO4 battery and optimate charger for it...seems ok...so far

i bought the more expensive one the other week and by reading the instructions, it seems that its a smart cookie. Does voltage drop tests etc then charges the battery in ways that only dolphins and aliens would understand :)

I think it's something to do with charging rates too...

Don't know which battery you have but JMT batteries state that you can use a normal charger, and I do with mine.

This is from a ebay ad

JMT lithium-ion batteries can be recharged using standard motorcycle battery chargers. The normal charging current usually corresponds to the battery capacity (e.g. 2.8 Ah capacity = 2.8 A charging current). On a quick charge, however, Li-ion batteries can be charged on a current that is ten times the battery capacity (e.g. 2.8 Ah capacity = 28 A charging current).

If your only using it as a trickle charger buy the cheaper one, only difference appears to be bulk charge rate.
The cheaper unit max charge current is 0.8 amps whereas the dearer one has a bulk charge rate of 5 amps i.e it will charge faster.
