How would you know if your bike is the full monty, or reduced bhp import, without going on a dyno?

'Cos when 600's come past you on the Mountain Section at the TT you know you have a problem! :D

It'll feel lethargic and wheezy after 10k instead of feeling more urgent as the revs rise

just something in a past thread.

also about 6 or 7 years ago me and my mate both had 03 r1,s. we rode a lot on the road quite fast also and there was no difference in our speeds/ability. we then fitted racefit growlers and a pc3. it only became apparrent wen we went to get hem custom mapped on the dyno that my mates was an import with 99bhp. so thats why i ask, cos on the road it seems that there is very little between them

there wont be,A 600 on the road would have no problems keeping up with a 1000.gearing would make a more of difference than outright power

^^ not really,a 600 being thrashed would keep up with a thou out for a leisurely spin in the twisties but between the roundabouts on a fast stretch of road the 6 would be left far behind

In the twisties I'd put my money on the six and he'd be having a lot more fun! The only way a thou is getting away from the six on a straight is if he canes it! And even then you'd be into triple figures.
I would politely suggest you're relatively new to biking if you think a thou can get away from a six on good biking road. :)

Not new to biking at all, just going from experience. I stated the six would be able for the thou in the bends and yes the six pilot would probably be having more fun getting the most out of his machine, but as I stated when the road opens up and the bends straighten out the thou will pull away.

left far behind my arse, unles your doing stupid speeds on the road it makes no difference at all. 100Bhp or a 1000BHP, when your doing speeds of 100 ish power makes no difference, gearing is the main thing

    I give up,a 202kg, 118hp 600 is as fast as a 200kg 150mph thou.

Pajo mate, you just can't get the power down on a thou in the twisties, you're right about the straight line bit but in the real world on good biking roads the six should win out. If it doesn't it'll be down to rider skill. Twisties are where it's at for bikes, I for one probably slow down on the straights 'cos they just aren't fun...... unless your front wheel is in the air! :D

on the road makes no odds.

the extra power only really comes into it when your pushing well in excess of 100mph,so on the road makes no odds....

Going by that logic, I can say a go kart is as fast as a gtr-on a go kart track.

i'd say a well ridden 600 is as capable as any 1000cc on a decent 'biking road'... if not more in certain circumstances. I was easily as quick on the road on my r6, and was very rewarding.

Only time it'd struggle would be at HM Hotel speeds... many a rolling drag race against bruce's gsxr 1000 proved there was next to nothing in it to about 150mph.... but at the end of EVERY straight.... is a corner ;)

1000's are amazing and the grunt is great, but can make you feel like your going quicker than you are and also makes you a lazy rider imo...
