Got my bike back from maxton yesterday, nice shiney new rear shock and springs n bits weighted for tubby in the forks, it liked to dive even under moderate braking and gave me no confidence whatsoever, can't wait to try it now ! got a spare set of rims and stuck dunlop boots on um too. So its time to get cracking, got myself a full titanium factory leo vince pipe, braided hoses and sintered pads to fit I know everyone has different views on this but it aint going to hurt the performance so whilst it was off out they came, didn't need to split or glue nout i just flirted the flaps out with a screwdriver then siliconed plastic over the holes. Quality exhaust went together nice with no pulling or bending, lovely sound but I'm guessing way too loud for track days and the db killer iv bought was too small it would drop straight through. Hears one of the shock, nice ! OH and anyone who was thinking about changing there hoses, BUY A BLEEDER ! Off with the old ! Im waiting to hear a bit more about this new quick shift (come on lambchops) before i pick one, then i can make my mind up dynojet/bazzaz before down to reps for its dyno time. Any suggestions please chuck um in !
Iye had a go yesterday, all went well bar the old school brake bleed, must have took an hour and had a forearm like hell boy at tha end of it !
Leo vince finally came back to me today and told me there is NO db killer for my pipe as its a full race system, Ha ! thought £600 was too good to be true.
you sure you bled the system in the correct way (m/c,furthest caliper,nearest,then m/c again).never had an issue myself when doing it like this with just a bit of tubing and a spanner. I do like stripping a bike down to prep for track,it's amazing the amount of crap you can take off that's not needed,the side stand on fzr 400 weighed about 3kg!!!
Parts nordik, estonia ! it is a bargain even if i have got to make a DB killer to fit, full titanium even down to the silencer internals, and it went together well.
Ahh m/c master cylinder, nope ! thought it would push any air through, going to do it again as the fluid went dark from the black tubing i used, so basically rag under top bolt bit of a squeeze lock it off, both callipers then back up top once more then both callipers again until fluid clear again i suppose. And yes agreed, i took the centre stand off a xjr1300 when fitting a r1 swing arm to it, had a job to pick it up ! Anyone reconise the seat unit !
Bit of a melt down ! Fitted the Leo vince, found out they don't do a DB killer for it, so thought I'd take some readings as is, only thing there's a high and low button on my meter on the low setting at 5k was getting 95 but when I switched to high setting was getting 120, has anybody any experience with these, am I good to go or do I need to make a DB killer fit ?
Something in my head is saying for a litre bike it should be measured 1m away from end of can with the engine at 50% revs. Am sure someone who knows for sure will soon be along to put me right.
From MSV website for static testing... "As per ACU guidelines, each bike is measured 0.5 meters away from the exhaust at a 45 degree angle when the engine is being held at the following RPM:" And about 5k rpm for a litre IL4 bike
yes that seems to be the correct method of testing, i held my DB meter up close hents the melted sponge ! and got 95db on low but 120 on high, can't find the instructions for the meter neither so don't know which is right, will have to make a few killers up take them to oulton and test them. God damn the noise restrictions, if people want a nice quiet area to live don't buy one next to a tracing circuit !!
Had another go today, Fitted the warrior ramp so got the track wheels and tyres on. few issues, with the 44T rear sprocket its pulled the wheel forward a lot, iv now only got 590mm from the centre of the front swing arm spindle to centre of rear, does anyone know the best distance ? didn't want to pull a good chain off but if it makes that much difference in handling will have to bite the bullet ! iv also gone from 50 to 55 profile which must raise it 20mm My next problem is the DB readings i been getting, followed the correct procedure, bike revving at 5k DB meter 500mm away up at a 45 angle and got the following, 96 db w'out DB killer on low setting. 120db w'out DB killer on high setting. 94db with DB killer on low setting. 112db with DB killer on high setting. So the db killer i got and adapted to fit is not doing a lot, but the pass/fail seems to be wether its on this high or low setting, does anyone have ant experience with these ?
you need some awesome stoppnig power now to compliment you new suspention set up : can get you a brand new set of brembo m4's (with pads, banjos and copper washers) £450 and a rcs 19 master cyclinder with resivior £250 you already have the braided lines may aswell finish it off nicely
Will do thanks, Got the DB readings down to 101/102 by fitting a longer db killer in this morn so put it back together and had my first test ride, first impressions were the suspension felt spot on and much more sure footed even on the 'road and wet settings', didn't get chance to really test the handling as it was wet and i had the brand new dunlops on 'wet greasy roads + new tyres=trouble' the brakes were more responsive although again not really tested. The tone from the leo vince was one of the best iv heard, that along with the plus two rear sprocket was egging me on more than my old man used to in school sports days, but i managed to keep a lid on it, if its dry tomorrow I'm out !!
