decided to get a new battery for my 11 plate blade as the old one was suffering in the cold. when swapping the batteries over I realised the original battery was connected up the wrong way. the positive lead on the negative terminal and so on. I've only had the bike since November so hadn't noticed this before. the new battery looks exactly the same as the old one. the terminals are the same way round. so I've had to turn the new battery around in the battery box to accommodate for the leads. can anyone shed any light on this? I've never seen this before but I do remember another member recently with the same problem.

This does sound very strange. Are you positive (pardon the pun) that you have got this correct?

Maybe the battery you took off had the terminals the other way around,

It couldn't have come like this from new, so somebody must have changed the battery before......And now you need another battery.....So effectively the bike will be on its 3rd battery in 4 years?.......

the new battery is fine. but I did have to place it in the battery box the other way round to accommodate the positive lead. ideally I should have bought one with the terminals the other way round. but when I took the old one to the shop I just bought like for like. I wasn't aware of the problem then. the old battery is stamped 2014 so its not original. the only thing I can think of is the previous owner put the battery in the correct way but didn't realise the terminals were the wrong way round. god knows its a new one on me

    Amazing two in no time.

I will say the same again, it's completly possible to charge a battery the wrong way round, it would have to be flat to do so, most new battery's come with an acid pack, let's say the acid is added to the dry cell and then thrown into the bike the wrong way round, it would now be charged from flat the wrong way round, from then on that's it. However manufactures may well arrange the plates in the battery to be efficient in the way they are supposed to be used, thus no idea on how long or the effects of reverse charging can have over time.

i think charging it the wrong way round did affect its life span. the new battery throws the motor over in a much stronger manner

I'm sure, given the materials used are arranged according to electron flow, I.e anode lead and cathode lead-oxide I have no doubt it's going to effect it in more than one way, not something I've ever needed to do.. :)
