replaced the fork oil & dust seals over the winter on my 06 following a weeping right fork. After getting the bike MOT'd yesterday, went for a short 30 mile blast and found the bloody fork still weeping oil. Im pretty sure I did a sound job of installing the seal (although I think the best thing is to try one more time with another new seal first). Wondering if anyone has ever bought and changed a stanchion over before? I guess it could just as easily be the fork tube instead of the stanchion, so may be both a change if another seal does not solve it.. Why not send yours away for TiN coating (titanium nitride) they would strip the chrome off and coat TiN (gold colour) would look good against black upper housing like the bmw ohlins
its crossed my mind a lot actually.. but need to sort the leak first before the bling colour Noticed LC has something similar and looks very cool - Ohlins FG329 just simply don't exist anymore unless your a lucky bas*** and find a second hand set!
you'd be suprised how easy the seals leak if the retaining springs aren't on right,or the slightest bit of dust/grit.try taking off the dust seal and spraying the seal with brake cleaner, gets rid of any dirt in there, but if the seal was nicked or the spring not right then nothing will stop it leaking

Had mine don't at Firefox racing, just saying like Martin also had his done, they do take 2-3 weeks mind they are not quick or cheap!
Think mine was about £180 to have the lower stanchions coated gold and the lower caliper brackets silver.. Had the uppers coated locally
well.. another set of seals installed this afternoon, bike all back together and no oil seen just bouncing the bike suspension around in the garage (pissing rain here so no test ride). Fingers crossed it was just a bit of dust etc that caused the seal to leak.
Glad it worked out with the seals, true about the fg329. Can't be found anywhere and every time a second hand set appears I'm too late by a few days. Been 3 years looking now. anyway been looking at the TiN coating but dunno of any places that do it here in Ireland.
I guess a test ride will confirm if its going to be fixed or not.. snow forecast here over the next few days
well.. just took the bike for a test ride with the new oil seals installed... Still slight leak and will likely only get worse. Guess I'm not on the hunt for a new fork / stanchion aggrhhhhhh
If you look closely at the seal spring you will see the spring screws together, unscrew the spring and snip about 3mm off, screw the spring back together buy twisting it backwards and then let it wind itself back together, you will have to look VERY closely at the spring to see where it's screwed together. This tigtens the seals grip on the fork. If I were you and that fails send them off for re chome/ground, then they will be better than new, or as said DLC/nitride coating. How's this for bling! Oh back in a mo......
