Not used the above mentioned units but the system we fitted into a workplace was similar to the top unit, but in that system those cameras were slightly lower resolution due to it being few years old now.

The system works fine once setup properly and gives about 3 months of recording time on its 1TB hd with the feeds coming off 4x 480 cameras. So the first option you gave would prob net you around 6 weeks of footage on its 500GB hd depending on settings used as they can be set to only activate and record upon sensed movement on each camera or record each second as normal.

My advice tho out of the options you gave would be go for the second option or similar as it's got the highest camera resolutions which make a big difference to the clarity and quality of the video should you really need it!

I'd get some Swann gear from maplin , they have it all set up in the store and can do a demo for you. Personally I'd get 2 dome camera, one for the front of the house and one at the rear. I always look at the dome type and think is that thing looking at me or not? The bullet cameras you can tell where they are pointing and get round the back of them etc.

    Just my opinion tho

I like the dome cameras and would get ones that send you an SMS message when they are activated, i would only have this at the back of the property or a place where the general public (postmen etc) will not need to go. Then you can log on via the web and see what the camera is seeing , if its johnny scumbag then you can call the police. The cctv systems out there are very good now for the money but a simple CCTV system that just recordeds what it sees seems a total waste of time to me, it only shows you the crime after its happened whereas the ones where they shown you what they are seeing and send you a message will potentially assist you stopping the crime as it happens.

I have a four camera system that I got from Costco a couple years ago on a pretty good deal. Two rear dome cameras giving full coverage, one up high under rafters, one at about 12ft up for id purposes, one on front of house and one on garage. Records to a hidden hard drive well tucked away inside the house, Internet enabled so I can dial into it at will and remote record onto a cloud server, sms & email alert on activation, the hard drive overwrites every three weeks on the fps setting I have it on and it's near as dammit hd quality. Still to install are the IR lamps kit to boost the nitesight capability Cost £450 and a steak bbq for the techy mate who installed it for me, I don't do ladders after a painful gutter cleaning Tarmac vs face incident in my first house many years ago. o_O

Well worth having for my own peace of mind and deterrent factor, but didn't make any difference to insurers.
I also have a big dog kennel on the rear patio that is pretty much the first thing anyone looking over my fence would see. Don't have a dog in it though.

Sounds like a nice system, the key to the cctv systems is that they alert you that someone is somewhere they should not be and you can then call the police. I have never really understood systems that simply record the offenders commiting the crime, the scumbags are so aware of cameras now that they often wear hoodies etc so you can't id them anyway.

My brother has a similar setup Hudson but he can dial in to his and shout at any burglars too. The novelty of scaring his missus at night if she's watching a scary movie alone downstairs has finally worn off.

I back up the system with £70 a year for smartwater kits for inside the house and the garage, from my professional perspective its a brilliant bit of kit, don't need their face on camera if they've touched it.
