Anyone used MCT or had their forks and rear shock serviced or re-valved. I know the way to go cheaply is to put a 2012 rear shock on but only just got a 08-11 Honda Racing carbon Hugger and told by you guys they hit. Going down the Ohlins route eventually, but spent too much over the winter, bought 12 things already to fit on the bike and still more to buy. Hello, my names Paul. And I'm an addict.
Not personally but plenty have, Abv rick has and he's been pleased I think.... Not heard anything bad about them tbh I'm James, I've been clean for 5 months now.... Oh shit, I bought a helmet and some fairings this week. I'm an addict too lol
i used them on my rr5, revalved the front, serviced the back and set up,you can also sit and watch what they are doing with a cup of tea too darren takes it for a couple of spind for minor adjustment and you do the same. great service!
TBH for what it costs to have the rear shock re-valved, services and sprung you can buy a BPF rear shock for similar money. I will be going down the route of having the forks done (the standard springs are too hard) but slotting in the BPF shock.
Did a track day at Snetterton a while back and pretty much everyone had MCT decals on their forks. Spoke to a few peeps about the hype and all said the same thing that MCT were the ‘go to’ for suspension tweeks, excellent service and results.(Helps that they are also local!) Only spoke to them a few weeks back re revalving the oem shock got a quote for £134 for a service and revalve, as Mr OCD pointed out a 2012+ shock can be had for similar money. But MCT advice was the new 2012 shock would be better than the pre 2012 revalved. Still deciding what to do as I have a brand new pre 2012 shock waiting to be fitted.
Yes, think I'll be call be calling them too. Anyone know what has to be done to a 08-11 Hugger to make a 2012 shock fit? Really want some Swedish gold for my bike but just can't, voices in my head keep telling me I can though.
I have used them for quite a few years and they are excellent. They are not money focussed, they care more about getting your bike how you want it. I currently have their fork internals and they are really good. Darren always takes the bike out for a test run after set up, then gets you to take it out and try it and will then do any tweaking you want. Never had to change anything after he has set up though. They have a nice little test route as well, which I travel slower than Darren does, the guy can ride.
How does the Street Triple R fare after a litre bike? I was thinking of going down that route but went with the Blade as I've had litre bikes for about 15 years now.
I'm loving it at the moment. I'd had the Blade 4 years and a GSXR 750 for 3 years before that so I notice the lack of power but it's not slow by any means and has a surprising amount of torque. Part of the reason behind changing was to avoid getting caught doing jail time speeds. I actually made the final decision while on tour in Spain last year riding through some of the twisties there I thought to myself "I'd be faster on a Street through here". On the twisty, bumpy A and B roads I ride on all the time there's no really difference in pace between the Street and an litre bike. And once MCT have done their stuff tomorrow I'm going sportsbike hunting ! I'd recommend trying one.
I spoke to them today, Tom it was and seem a nice bloke and very helpful. Checking when I can get away and up there as only do Mon to Friday. Need the springs/oil changed serviced, re valve on the front. Then 08-11 shock re valves,oil n service, then the bike set-up.
Had the pleasure of riding with rick a lot over last few years, his roads, my roads, and on tour in Spain, and I was surprised how at ease he looked on the thing and certainly on my roads the other week I'd say quicker than what he would of been on the blade!!! Awesome bikes... I got the triple r back end of last year but haven't rode it much due to leg break and on same ride out was pleasantly surprised how well it made 'progress' easily as quick on most roads, some even quicker and a lot more fun just normal riding and when you ain't mixing it with the 1000's.... I found I was riding like a bellend to get my kicks on the r1 so fancied a change, and the naked does it all IMO... Can happily cruise on it where as there was only one mode on the sportsbike - flat out! Lol Was in Spain with rick last year that I also fancied a change, over 130 1000cc is king, but on the canyon, twistie and mountain switchbacks etc which are a large share of the riding, I'd put money on me be quicker on the 1050 and have a lot more fun doing so.... And now he's getting his suspension done, I know he's luring us into a trap to go riding in the fens lol Edit - might as well bang a pic up too
This the write up I did for the STR forum I went to MCT Suspension last Friday to have the suspenders on my 2014 Street Triple R fettled. MCT work out of a smallish unit in Stowmarket owned by Darren who has Tom as his assistant. The brief was to get my bike as good as it could be without resorting to expensive after market products. Darren recommended a spring and oil change for the forks and just a set up for the rear. He could have refreshed the oil in the rear shock but didn’t feel it was necessary. He also made a small modification to the dampers in the fork which involves drilling a 0.5 mm hole. This is due to a problem with the fork as standard. It gets very stiff towards the bottom of the stroke due to a pressure build up, the small hole relieves this pressure giving a smooth action through out the stroke. The springs were changed slightly heaver items as the fork is under sprung and overdamped as standard. They set the sag with me on the bike and then Darren took the bike out for a test ride and came back to make a small adjustment. He also discovered the steering head bearings were over tight. With the front wheel off the ground it took far more effort than it should to move from side to side. I actually remember reading in one of the bike mags who had an STR on long term test had this same problem so it’s worth checking yours. Another test ride and Darren declared he was happy. I took it for quick test and the difference was instantly noticeable. The first thing that struck me was how smooth and level the bike felt. The bill for all this was £340 inc VAT. It wasn’t until the trip home that I really began to appreciate the difference. I didn’t realise how the suspension effects the whole ride. It’s not just bump management. The bike now holds a line much better and changes line without drama if need be. Under braking the bike is more stable meaning you can brake harder. Even acceleration feels better as the bike stays flatter. The modification to the fork is noticeable. In the past when pushing on I found myself trying to get all my weight forward over the front as it felt too hard, this isn’t necessary now. A 75 mile journey home turned into 175 miles as I was having so much fun! All in all I think it was money well spent and I’d recommend MCT to anyone.
