well took the bike to get the tyre pressures checked again today and what i found has just made it worse, was shocked when i checked the rear as it read 18psi:eek: then checked the front and that had actually kept its pressure at 34psi, so upper the rear back to 38 and made sure dustcaps were as tight. returned 4hrs later and the pressures were spot on, hopefully ken was right about it being loose dustcaps and that will be the end of it, if it is i will feel like such a noooob

I appreciate this is an old post, but a friend of mine had what he thought was a front flat on the way to Brands. Turned out it was the dust cap (not originals) and they were done up tight...too tight - they were pressing the valve open! He inflated the tyre and took half s turn off the dust cap and had no further loss of pressure.

Just a thought, maybe this could happen with a OEM dust cap too tightly done up?

I appreciate this is a rely old post'

Just a post note on my comments previously .
When I went to renew my tyres the fitter advised against refitting the new shiny blue alloy caps stating that they ( oxidise ) or form a seal between the cap and valve and sometimes you can't remove the cap ......

Ahh strange you say that...I've got alloy caps and I left bike parked up for an hour at meadowhall the other day, anyhow later that day came to take caps off to check pressure & rear one was totally stuck on, I had to use pliers to unscrew! I've been blaming some twat for either trying to nick em (it's happened before) & screwed it wrong way or just thinking it's funny to jam it on!

Put a small bit of copper slip on the thread...prevents oxidisation/rust ;)
