Today I returned home from work to find a letter from MCE Insurance. I opened the letter to read the following : ----------------------------------------------------- "Dear Mr Green With reference to your previous reminder we find that we have still not received your reply. With regard to our previous letter we regret that your insurance is now cancelled. Then a reminder that it is an offence to use the motorcycle on the road under the road traffic act........ BLA BLA BLA." -------------------------------------------------------- Now, bearing in mind that since returning to motorcycling over three years ago, I have only ever been insured with MCE, so they are fully aware of all my details. The insurance relates to my 2015 Fireblade, which I insured from the 1st of March as a new motorcycle with no modifications. I also paid the insurance policy in full when I took out the policy at the Excel Motorcycle Show, prior to even having the bike delivered from Honda. Then when I did take possession of the bike, I called them to confirm that I had taken delivery of the bike and confirmed the registration and check my insurance policy was valid from that day (2nd March), which they agreed it was and informed me that my documents had been emailed to me a few days previously...... which they had. So........ Having been riding the bike on the road for the last month, I suddenly receive this letter. So I give them a call late this afternoon to inform them that I have never received any previous reminders as they are referring too in their letter...... and ask them if there is a problem with my insurance policy. This is after holding on the phone for 27 minutes before being spoken to by a human being........... Very Poor MCE. Eventually I hand over my details and the guy on the phone checks my details on his computer (I assume), then asks me if I can hold, while he speaks to his supervisor........ I wait for another 6 minutes. He then returns and asks me a few more questions about the bike and confirms the registration. Then informs me he doesn't know why I was sent the letter ! ! ! ! ! If they find an issue, they will contact me........................ I really don't fancy being stopped by the law and told I have no insurance policy in force and they're going to take my bike to some storage depot. VERY POOR MCE So.......... They don't know why I was sent the letter............. The don't know anything about a "Reminder" that the latest letter refers too........... They hold all my motorcycle insurance details for the past three years............ The bike in new, with no modifications at all.................. I paid the policy in full when i took it out, so it's not a payment issue................. NOT good MCE
Trying to actually get through to speak to a Human takes ages, almost 30 minutes before I could actually speak to someone. I made the mistake of using my mobile, dreading the bill.
They really are a shower of shite. I had the misfortune of claiming from them ... I wouldn't wish the experience on my worst enemy!
You need to be careful there mate . When you apply for insurance one of the questions they ask is "have you ever had insurance canceled?" Well now you have… i would ask them for a covering letter and for them to remove all trace of it from the insurance data base and prove to you that they have.
Very Good Point - I will be sending the an email and will be sending them this link. Thanks for the advice
Glad to here all your reassuring comments about MCE just insured my blade for the first time with them yesterday, lets hope I have no need for their intervention.
I was with them when I binned my first Gixer 1000. Shit experience. When I had to claim they asked me for proof of the security device that was fitted. Told them there wasn't one! They almost cancelled my claim due to some muppet putting a tick in the box that there was one fitted. They even had the make of it!!! When I disputed it I had a nervous week while they traced the original call. Turned out ok in the end but more luck than judgement I think!
OK.......... Just spoke with them again for an update (At least they're open till 9pm..... Better than many), and they've confirmed it was an "Automated Error"................ and confirmed it was an error on their part and will not be recorded on the insurance database. Well, no one's perfect I guess, someone forgot to tick something somewhere, but it wasn't me. All good to go again. I always think of insurance as a legal requirement, and it's down to me to reduce the risk of anything going wrong.
If you haven't done wrong they should refund the call costs! Also push for compensation for the stress and inconvenience that this issue has caused, also mention the financial ombudsman if you feel you aren't getting their attention over this
Might have to look elsewhere next time. Not a good experience on the very first time of trying to get hold of them. to sort out their cock up.

Thats weird! I've used them for around 5 years now and not had one issue! although I haven't had to make a claim yet (touch wood)
