I always change my oil every 3k miles anyway but I have am RR9 which has a quick shifter fitted and I do around 4-5 trackdays a year so it does get used how it was made to be used, always looked after and has just done 14k but 2k after oil change the oil looks nasty and black and you can feel the gearchange getting worse so this time I took the oil out early and replaced now its fine again I am putting silkolene comp 4 in as thats what fuchs say! Should I be putting a better oil in? If so what? Cheers
Ive used that and always thought it was a goof oil......... but there are some favourites by others on here.....
If be interested in the reply as I have 4l of Fuchs Comp 4 here and I know the Blade should have semi synthetic in it. What's the opinion?
It was fine my my zx10r yeah I guess it was a 2005 c2h never had an issue with it hence I put it in the blade I know alot of people rave about 300v may give that a go and see
Silk comp is semi synth. Keep on using it if you have no issues. Up to you and your pocket how often you change the oil (as long as it is within the 8k interval).
Not used Shell but I tried the recommended Castrol, Putolene, Motul but Silkolene Pro4 energy 10w30 fully synthetic is by far the best without a shadow of a doubt! Amazing stuff
Nice one you'll notice your gear change a whole lot slicker also fewer petrol stops and you'll swear bike performance is a lot livelier! That's because it will be! Remember to me know what you think of it
Well what you said is spot on! Cant believe the difference between the comp 4 and the pro 4 why do silkolene say use comp 4???? Its shit compared to the pro oil!!
Nice one mate another convert! was it 10w30 pro 4 energy you got? I've no idea why they recommend Comp! But I know my engine & gearbox is clean and working at they're best
Yeah it was the 10w30 I put in, the chain rattle has gone from cold start up and quickshifter works much better!
Interesting stuff, the guy I bought my blade from had been using Silkolene Pro4 15W-50, no idea why as I always thought that viscosity was for warmer environments - certainly ain't that hot in the North East! I don't need to change it yet as it was not long serviced but I usually use Castrol Power 1 Racing 10W-40, although I noticed a good buy on ebay for the 10W30 - http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/151616300106?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT Also Rock Oil is very good and a bit cheaper than the Castrol and Motuls of this world.
I had just put 15w50 rock oil in a friends r1 as he uses it on the track so gets hot and he has been told its better for racing I do use the blade on the track but mainly on road so I stuck with 10w30 I found the castrol oil the dealer put in mine ok but the gearbox feels sticky I guess is a good word
I do appear to be wrong on that. I have just checked the manual and all it says is API SJ and Jaso MA. Comp 4 is API SL and MA2 synthetic based, whereas Pro 4 Energy actually is API SJ and Jaso MA2 fully synthetic. http://www.fuchslubricants.com/Content/downloads/Silkolene-A4-v5.pdf
I'm in for a slating but I use Halfords own 10-40. Its gets changed every second track day (300 miles) with the filter replaced every four (600 miles). The condition isn't too bad when I'm draining it.
