Hi Folks, I need some guidance with a starting problem: when I stop and refuel bike and tank is full, I switch ignition back on and press the starter to find all power suddenly goes dead upon pressing button. I have to remove 30 amp master fuse and plug it back in to get power going again - all is then fine. This has happened since removing complete front fairing, lights etc, if there is any connection. It only happens when refuelling. Bike is a 2012 Fireblade. Any help will be appreciated. Cheers, Andrew.
I haven't had chance to investigate problem yet but will do this weekend. I am hoping that someone can advise me what connection is responsible seeing as refuelling is the trigger? The bike works fine until then. Cheers!
so let me get this right. bike starts/stops/runs/goes fine.turns off, starts fine, but whenever you put fuel in,it goes dead? it cant be just then surely?
Yes! When I stop for fuel and fill tank, I switch ignition back on and all is fine until I press starter button, then power goes dead. It has to be reset by taking out master fuse? It only happens when tank is filled!
Also take off the tank cover and press down on the fuel tank when you try start it. Could be something trapped/pinched.
The simple answer is nothing, the refuelling process has nothing to do with the starter/power system. It has power/earth feeds for the fuel pump and wires to sensor put the fuel light on that's it. I think it just so happens that you tend to be fueling up when it does happen. I would be more likely to investigate the starter switch for jamming or the starter motor/starter relay and battery terminals. Does it blow the main fuse? The pinched idea of the tank pipes I think would be more prominent as you were riding along emptying the tank which would cause fuelling issues ie. the bike to surge and splutter, and the tank cant really move as its bolted in place back and front.
Hi, it doesn't blow the main fuse. Simply, when the instruments are ready to start bike, and the injectors primed, when the button is pressed all power to the bike dies. When I pull the fuse out and plug it back in, that resolves problem and then bike fires up off starter button. That is mighty coincidental seeing as it has occurred twice under the exact same circumstances when refuelling. There is no problem at all with fuelling or anything else apart from this starting issue - the bike runs superbly. Having stripped the front end to clean bike recently, this seems to have triggered the problem. I will take a good look at things on the weekend. Do you have any suggestions as to what may cause all power to die when pressing starter? It is odd that simply pulling fuse out and replugging it, solves problem until next time?
So what happens if you brim the Tank, do the Palarva, then ride off for say 20 miles then rebrim the Tank?
I have only brimmed the tank and left refuelling until needed again. It could be a good litmus test to confirm/rule out link?
I would still be looking at the starter electronics side of things, the starter solenoid would by my first area to look at as it may be jamming closed and not allowing power to return down normal engine running wires giving impression of no power! Once the fuse is removed the solenoid loses power and the electrical switch returns to normal running position and power is therefore restored. But until you or someone actually carries out some fault finding on the bike everything mentioned is just a pointless list of possible things to check.
