Brake issues ABS

Hey up guys, I posted on here last night about issues with the 2010 ABS Fireblade and braking problems all be it I have never experienced any issues as yet but only ridden bike twice....

Now the issue is this I have read a post on this forum detailing the issue as brake pedal and lever will go completely spongy and brakes will be non existent I'm really worried about this wtf will happen if ya pace is quick and all of a sudden no brakes when ya need em bit worried to ride the bike ?????

What should I do ?? Have I bought wrong bike etc ?? Love the thing it rides beautiful etc just bit worried that's all any help be much let apriecated

this happened twice to my mate Danny and his 2014 SP. Although this is not ideal, both times for him happened at very low speed (under 15 mph) and seems to be when feathering the brakes - say filtering in traffic. A few things to try and keep your system working - 1) I would say always use the 50 profile rear tyre. Danny's SP seemed to have issues after he changed to a 55. May or may not be related. 2) part of the ABS system sits directly behind the exhaust headers. I've taken Danny's headers off, and covered the pump & heat shield in reflective matting in an attempt to keep it cool. Since this (and a few bleeds of the brakes) everything seems to have settled down.

Who knows if either of these will have made a difference long term, but something we have tried to keep the bike & rider in one piece! Don't think I've heard of anyone mention their brakes failed while on the pace.

 

Thanks remal I haven had any issues as yet but doesn't really fill me with confidence ya know ... I asked me mechanic that has been doing the job for 40plus years he said he has never seen heard or exp any such prob with the ABS blade either strange hey I phoned Honda today also and they stipulate the same ... I phoned up main dealer they say the same and that if I'm worried to Pop in and they will have a little look.... I stopped in gravel last night at my by with back brake and the ABS done exactly what it says on the tin spot on so probably worrying for nothing but always good to have a second opinion hey man

 

Thanks also gilsey much apriecated the knowledge you have passed on well nervous now as we do have a play from time to time could be very dangerous however saying that gonna just have to keep her now and see how things go hey fella bit of a worry though that so many have had similar issues but yet none have been recalled ummm strange that hey man

 

Try not to think about it and enjoy your bike. I have an ABS with no such troubles.

 

Mate, I have enough in print to stipulate what happens when you get a ABS Blade with issues, so I am not going over old ground again, other than to say, brake failure occurs both at low speed and at high speed, and it does not happen on a non ABS blade.

The point I will comment on is that Honda UK and most but not all of their dealers are programmed to spew out the same lines..........there is only one thing certain here, the sun will rise in the east and set in the west tomorrow and everyday afterwards.

The other point of note is that it is now 6 years since Honda introduced this 'revolutionary' ABS system, do you not think it strange that since then no other manufacturer of bikes has adopted the same system.......................................................................................................................

 

Never mind about no other manufacturer using the Honda proprietary c-abs system, No other bike in the entire Honda fleet uses the so called revolutionary amazing (P.O.S!) c-abs system except the two bikes it was first fitted to back in 2010!!!

Why has honda kept the system in place and fitting it to new cbr600/1000rr's well that's prob quite simple to answer they don't want to have to explain why they had to swap abs systems mid model run!

I would be very very surprised if this system was fitted to the new design bikes when Honda do finally release them, and their get out of jail free card on why they decided to change away from Honda developed abs well it's simple they say "its a whole new bike from ground up!"

 

If worried, I'm sure it's quite easy to bypass the system. We remove the ABS systems on the BMW S1000RR race bikes. Took the system off my BM too.

Can you remember if he removed it because of problems re, no lever pressure, and was it a success?

It's amazing how heavy the ABS systems actually are

I have a 2010 ABS blade and have never had a problem with it. The bike has just had a service and conventional brake bleed after replacing the fluid and the brakes feel sound. If you were to experience spongy brakes I'm sure the full ABS bleed done by a competent person and a clean of the calipers/sensors would resolve it.

Ah rite so it's not Honda that's screwed up building a prototype system that doesn't work properly its me and everyone else for not being competent!

 

Well I wasn't saying anyone was incompetent I was just trying to reassure the op so that he can enjoy his pride and joy. Obviously people have had problems with them but mine is a 2010 ABS and I've had no problems with it what so ever
